At the IACP culinary conference in Austin, where the yums were too numerous to mention, there was an incomparable raspberry chipotle ice cream sauce, a vast table of Guittard single-origin chocolates, and bacon pralines.Foreign & Domestic was outstanding, though I passed on the beef heart tartare with egg yolk.
June brought a reverse-order meal on the East Side, starting with Pied Piper ice cream and ending with a Barbie Burger cheesesteak.
July held two of the best meals yet this year: seafood starter and rabbit at Bound'ry, and a fish dinner at a little destination gastropub on the Dover coast of England, site also of the best English dessert I've ever had: treacle tart, a cousin of caramel pie.
Trips to Fat Boys barbecue, California Pizza Kitchen for fresh corn guacamole, Riffs for banh mi, Happy Eating for tacos and gyoza and Porta Via for the d.o.c. pizza — summer was 90 days of pretty wonderful eating.
