Nashville is ending the summer with a bang — or more accurately, a sizzle. Pitmasters, barbecue aficionados and normal folk alike are invited to attend the third annual Music City Festival & BBQ Championship, celebrating one of summer’s favorite pastimes and featuring several notable music acts.

While festivalgoers treat their taste buds to Music City’s finest barbecue, aspiring ’cue masters will contend for cash and prizes, none more prestigious than ultimate trophy: the “Grand Ole Porker” award. Meanwhile, everyone can enjoy the summer sounds of The Marshall Tucker Band, Shelly Fairchild, Ronnie Milsap, The WannaBeatles and more. At the end of the day, only a few will walk away with prizes — but that doesn’t mean that the rest can’t leave feeling high on the hog. Not to mention, Southerners and gluttony go together better than Paula Deen and butter.

The festival is Friday and Saturday, Aug. 26-27, at Riverfront Park. For information and volunteer opportunities, visit the festival's website.
