Allium, the restaurant in East Nashville's Fifth and Main condo development, closed its doors after brunch on Sunday. The restaurant was opened two-and-a-half years ago by Chris Lowry and Jay Luther, who also own Germantown Cafe.

"We feel like we were never going to regain momentum after opening at the worst time in recent economic history," Lowry told Bites in an email.

But they don't plan on giving up the location, and already have a new eatery in the works."With all of the recent changes in the Fifth and Main development, we are still excited about the opportunities with our space, and look forward to unveiling something new in the next six weeks or so," Lowry says.

Bites caught up with Luther by phone this morning. Interestingly, when the economy got worse, Germantown Cafe's business got better, he says. And speaking of the North Nashville restaurant, Luther shared the name of the new restaurant that will take over the Allium space: Germantown Cafe East. He says some of Allium's more popular items may remain on the menu, along with some Germantown classics and more.

Stay tuned.
