Myplate.gov does a good job of describing the new icon: Half the plate is fruits and vegetables, and the segment called protein (rather than meat) plays a smaller role. Keeping it simple required leaving out some of the finer details, though.
Enter Alice Henneman of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (one of my fellow members of the International Association of Culinary Professionals), who put together a fabulous Powerpoint presentation that goes into a lot of detail about Myplate.
