We're Sober as Hell and We're Not Gonna Take it Any More: Yelp Drinks Week

Our town is finally starting to make its mark on the technoverse. Recently Twitter deemed Nashville an important enough market to merit our own spot on the localized trending topics list. I recently learned we are also hip enough to warrant our own community manager on Yelp, the social networking, review and local search website based out of the Bay Area. Our local manager is a very personable young woman who goes by Marcia M. (you'll have to meet her in person to get her last name out of her), and her job is to create and maintain a community among the users/reviewers who power Yelp.

Although Marcia is relatively new to town, she has already made quite an impact hosting gatherings for elite users and sponsoring numerous charity events and parties around Nashville. Like many of us, she caught wind that The Daily Beast had named Nashville numero uno on their list of "America's 30 Soberest Cities" and was aghast. Admittedly, it's hard to get too upset when the criteria included such health measures like:

Percent of adults who are heavy drinkers: 2.4
Percent of adults who are binge drinkers: 7.9
Deaths per 100,000 residents from alcoholic liver disease: 2.5

But I think some folks might have been lying to the surveyors when they claimed to only drink 8.92 alcoholic beverages per month. I know more than a few curve-busters out there in the Bites reading audience.

Rather than attempt to parse the numbers for deep social meaning, Marcia and the folks at Yelp have decided to offer a tongue-in-cheek response to The Daily Beast's declaration by declaring May 9-15 as Yelp Drinks Week in Nashville. Ten local bars and restaurants have signed on to the effort to take back our reputation as a party town by offering drink deals on three special cocktails or other alcoholic beverages during that week:

And we here at the Scene are not going to take this "Soberest City" bull crap sitting down either. We've partnered with Yelp and our de facto sales office at Yazoo Brewing Co. to lead the Band of Boozers Rally on Tuesday, May 10. Come join us as we lead a merry band of drunksters from Yazoo to Mercy Lounge for an evening of frivolity. Check out the deets:

Band Of Boozers Rally @ Yazoo 5-6 p.m.

$2 Yazoo pints for anyone who shows up to participate in Band Of Boozers march and extra points for protest signs and Band Of Boozers gear!

Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Gerst Brewery Historical Marker, which a 501c3 group called Brewed in Dixie is raising money for.

Band Of Boozers marchers will start at Yazoo and stomp to Mercy Lounge (approximately 1/2 mile), home of the Yelp Drinks Celebration Party that kicks off at 6:30!

$1 Yazoo pints for the first 100 and INCREDIBLE drink specials throughout the night!

Evening will be packed with:
Trivia
Tastings
Drink Specials
Photobooth

Entertainment by:
9 p.m. Majestico

DJ sets by:
7:30 p.m. Vitalic Noise

9:45 p.m. Wild Cub

A fun evening of civic pride, fundraising to recognize an iconic Nashville product, music and prizes. What else could you ask for? Plus we get to stick it to The Daily Least. Y'all come!
