That's the phrase Oscar-winning actress Mary Steenburgen uses in her "newbie's guide" to Nashville, which lavishes our city with praise. "A city of poets" ... "one of the most glorious cities in America" ... aw, shucks, purdy lady, you made us blush.
The Oscar-winning actress says she's been spending time here to collaborate on songwriting with folks like Matraca Berg. (We hear she also filmed a pilot in the Nashville area, Outlaw Country, for FX.)
Steenburgen, who runs a candle company called Nell's Compass with her daughter, Lilly McDowell Walton, wrote a post on the Nell's Compass blog about her discoveries in Nashville — specifically, places to eat.
She first tips her hat to Gwyneth Paltrow's musings about Nashville on GOOP, then lists a dozen or so of her own favorite spots. They're pretty solid recommendations, though nothing way off the beaten path. She promises to add to the list.
A bona fide Hollywood celebrity, Steenburgen doesn't name-drop much, but I enjoyed learning that she sought out Margot Cafe on the recommendation of Zach Galifianakis.
(Tip o' the hat to Jim Reams for alerting us to this one.)
