Richman has said in interviews that he wanted to visit Nashville, and last year Chris Chamberlain asked Bitesters to come up with our favorite dining spots for Richman to tackle.
Well, we've heard nothing official, but a job ad on Craigslist seems to indicate the show is in town today through Sunday.
NASHVILLE, TN - MAN V. FOOD PRODUCTION/PHOTO INTERNSHIPThe Travel Channel's Man v. Food will be in Nashville on Wednesday, 03/02/11 through Sunday, 03/06/11 for our new season! Off day on 03/05/11.
We're looking for 2 production interns and 1 photography intern to assist the crew.
Production Interns: Duties include securing appearance releases, shooting B-roll, organizing production tapes, assisting with gear, and general assistance.
Photography Interns: Duties include taking production stills of our host and crew in action. Their photos will be featured on the Travel Channel's website for Man v. Food once the episode airs — Camera will be provided (a SONY A230 DSLR) and all photos will be owned by the Travel Channel. Those images will be owned by the Travel Channel.
This internship is UNPAID, but lunch will be provided. We'll also sign off on any college/extra credit if needed. This is a great opportunity to learn how a documentary/reality style production is shot and is a fast way to add experience to your resume!
(Those applying for the Photography Internship, please send a link to a portfolio or please send a few samples)
We have no idea of Richman's Nashville itinerary, but surely no food daredevil could visit our city without a stop at Prince's for hella-great hot chicken. (Does anybody want to volunteer to stake out the door at Prince's for the next few days?)
And Bites Nation, if you spot the Man v. Food crew around town, please report back.
* (Just kidding. There is absolutely no indication that unpaid interns will be required to eat anything scary or larger than their heads.)
Showing 1-22 of 22
Latest intel is that he'll be at Rooster's downtown at 12th and Porter for lunch. Report back if you're in the area, Bitesters.

It worked for me.
Rooster's ?? why on earth Rooster's ???
btw, that ad for unpaid interns made me totally feel old, 'cause there's no way in hell I would fall for that whole "add valuable experience to your resume" line any more. Where is the EEOC anyway ? Unpaid internships being used to get free labor and free grunt work are supposedly an area of crackdown. Is this their whole production model? Go to town and get free labor for a free meal that the vendor's probably comping anyway?
(As for Prince's, if anyone were to go there for an episode, I would love to see the look on Ms Andre's face when she explains that they are paying for the chicken or she's not fixing it...and then when they ask to film the operations in the kitchen - hooboy, that would be fun to watch indeed.)
Rooster's has a 72 oz. steak challenge that's pretty much a knock off of the Big Texan Steak Ranch Challenge. http://www.nashvillescene.com/bites/archiv… Word is that he'll be filming there again tonight at around 6:00, so that might be when he tackles the beast.
As far as working for cheap to gain experience, I've been doing that here at the Scene for two years now and find it pretty rewarding. And I have to pay for my meals. 8^)
I'm hoping Adam visits Prince's for a non-volume based challenge segment and enjoys some extra hot.
Rooster's has one of those 72 oz steak or whatever is challenges. You eat the whole thing plus sides in an hour and you win at something.
The Big Texan should sue...or Rooster's should start putting up billboards along I-40, starting at about Fort Smith, AK to the West (on the EB side, natch) and at least Hickory, NC to the East.
Chris, we all do what makes sense to us at the time and what works with our long-term goals, of course. But I, for one, would say your work merits payment ! There is an abuse of the "intern" role that is garnering closer scrutiny by those who enforce workplace labor law, so this ad strikes me as almost flaunting a cavalier approach. And if I think it through too much, what's the worker's comp impact here, all jokes about food to the side ? What about liability for anything they do while they work under the production company's direction ? Hmm...
But back to the point, has the Man v Food show just covered all the "real" food contest sites and are now digging for ones that are so obscure the locals don't even consider it ? I mean, I've been to the Big Texan several times, and the lists of the contest winners - not just contestants in general - are impressive, and everywhere ! That thing goes back years. Every time you eat there someone is up on that stage with a clock ticking. Who's actually doing that here ?? Does Rooster's even keep a fresh 72oz steak on hand ? I've been to Rooster's, too - it's not exactly a featured event. I don't even remember seeing a table on a stage with a clock...let a lone a single list (not dozens) of winners. But then, I didn't have all those billboards pounding the idea into my head for a few hundred miles...
well, good luck and have fun, everyone that attends. or interns. And give us the skinny on that steak - fresh or frozen ?? :)
We were talking over lunch about how the only organized monster eating challenges in town that we know of are the Rooster's deal and the 10 lb. Cheesesteak at Pirhana Bros. Texas BBQ and a Pittsburgh sandwich company.
We need something local. Am I missing something like a Pancake Pantry yard o' dough? Sportsman's Grille vat of fried pickles? Loveless biscuit barrel? Step up, Nashville!
If you took away the ability for companies to use unpaid interns, the entire Nashville music industry would collapse. As would most of the rest of the entertainment industry.
Around the Way Dog in Murfreesboro has a "33" challenge. 3 pounds of hotdogs, 3 pounds of fries in 33 minutes. Right off MTSU's campus. That would be an awesome stop!
OK Scene people, I think it's time for a story about the ethics and legality of unpaid internships in N'ville and its impact on entry level jobs. It really is a mockery of a sham.
Nashville Biscuit has a burger called the Big John - if you eat it all (including the fries, I think), you get a photo of yourself on the wall of fame. There's no time limit, I'm pretty sure.
Not an official challange, but we should have Adam try eating a few (400 degree) chicken breasts from 400 Degrees on Peabody St, for a true Nashville Hot Chicken challenge. He'd be a human napalm shooter.
Man V Food was filming @ 5pm Friday night at Prince's. My sistr said no one there knew of Adam or the show. LOL! Wonder how he's feeling today.....
Man V Food was @ Prince's 5pm Friday night. My sister was there getting dinner for our families.(yeah, hot chicken is a family thing) No one there had heard of Adam or the show, so she was having to whisper & explain to them that this was a cool thing. Wonder how Adam's feeling today.....
