Whole Foods Bails Out Tardy Valentine's Shoppers

Last year a few days before Christmas, I offered you a procrastinator's gift guide to picking up last-minute presents at the Turnip Truck. Well, for Valentine's Day I really pushed my deadline. Fortunately, Whole Foods can come to the rescue with gifts for your sweetheart that will be appreciated for their thoughtfulness and the fact that they are local products.

Consider picking up a special Cinnamon Chili Heart chocolate from Olive and Sinclair. I know that Olive and Sinclair has grown to become much more readily available than when they first released this addictive flavor, but I still hoard it like a tweeker on A&E whenever I find it.

For $12.99 each, you can certainly afford to buy one of the few hearts I didn't scoop up at Whole Foods.

Or how about some dark or milk chocolate boxed toffees from Nashville Toffee Co.? Because nothing says "I love you" like screwing up your true love's bridgework. You'd better check on that one before you shell out the $13.99.

Most intriguing is a Hemp Body Candle from Lillian Skincare in Mt. Juliet. All ingredients used are natural, vegan and eco-friendly. A unique characteristic of this gift is that it's a lotion, massage oil and candle all in one.

Although this might bring to mind an old SNL skit, the instructions swear that after you burn the candle for awhile, you can use the melted oil as a massage aid. Sounds kinda like a scene out of Angel Heart to me, but it is undeniably hot. $23.99 is a small price to pay to rekindle an old flame.

If you're willing to extend your definition of "local" a little further down I-65, Nicki Wood discovered a great little candy company operating out of Birmingham called Indie Candy. She raved about their offerings after a recent trip to the Iron City and now you can share the love with your sweetheart by purchasing one of their Love Heart Crystal Lollipops at Whole Foods.

Best of all they are vegan, GFCFSF (gluten-free, casein-free, soy-free) and made with no artificial dye. Just think about how thoughtful you'll appear, and your Valentine never has to know that you did your shopping on Monday at the same time you were picking up your coffee for the week.
