Open Thread is the Bearer of Good News

Bites reported last week about the fire, temporary closure and worker displacement at Table 3, the Green Hills bistro that's been winning accolades with its food and atmosphere.

Bites just got word that the sister restaurant of Table 3, F. Scott's, will be opening on Sundays beginning Jan. 16, serving some of Table 3's menu, including cassoulet, duck confit and herb chicken. Sunday hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and brunch will be served 11 to 3. In a very generous gesture, the big screen TV will be on in the bar for football. Call 269-5861 for reservations.

Other news: BrickTop's, the wildly popular West End Avenue eatery, is building in Cool Springs, on McEwen. Opening is scheduled for May. It's been a while since I pointed the family car southward to explore Cool Springs — if you pass that way, Bites is the place to file a progress report.

Another morsel: Salud!, the cooking school at Whole Foods Green Hills, is offering a cheese-making class on Jan. 19. If cheese is milk's leap toward immportality, then this might be your leap to cheesemaking. Sign up at the link here.

The final treasure we unearthed this week is a meal bargain: Shane's Rib Shack in Franklin has a great special until Jan. 22 — two half-racks of ribs and two drinks for $20. Go to the website and clip the coupon to get the deal.

Do you have any restaurant- or food-related news, bargains or gripes? The Open Thread is the place to confide.
