
Nationally, a food safety bill that would have given the FDA authority to issue a recall seems to have stalled in the Senate over details. Some are concerned that it will harm small producers and farmers, others are annoyed that a provision to eliminate BPA from children's cups and bottles was struck from the bill.

If that bill passes, it could very well lead to an huge decline in vendors at our farmer's markets. More paperwork, and confiscated foods simply because of government regulations. Aren't we supposed to be free to eat what we want? hmmm
Well, we're already not free to eat what we want, including raw milk and cured but uncooked hams like prosciutto and country ham, some people would argue. That point aside, But it does seem like the bill could have unintended consequences dramatically affecting small producers. Seems like delaying the bill for another look is a good idea at this point.
abwhite, Jon Tester's amendment that excepts small farms growing for local markets passed in the Senate bill that went through today.
So unless you're either a diehard libertarian who thinks the market should take care of producers who selling poisonous food, or unless you're a concern troll who is concealing a pro-corporate agenda, you should be happy, right?
