That's the market (a spinoff of entrepreneur John Dyke's longtime East Nashville store) that promises not only natural groceries but a wide selection of gourmet takeout foods created by prominent chef Laura Wilson (Ombi, Wild Iris, former consultant on Holland House).
OK, I talk about Wilson a lot, and I've blogged about this project before, but nonetheless, people constantly ask me when the new Turnip Truck will open.
As you can see by the picture above, they're making good progress on turning an old warehouse at 12th Avenue and Pine Street into a sleek retail store. And here's the schedule, barring any unforeseen developments: Turnip Truck will have a soft opening on Friday, Oct. 29, with a grand opening Saturday, Oct. 30.
The grand opening party will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with treat bags for kids, chances to win various prizes, and a free tote for the first 200 folks who spend 40 bucks. I especially love the plan to engage youngsters in a turnip toss. (That's certainly a clever way to introduce children to one of the world's least-glamorous vegetables.)
As we speak, Wilson is working on her menu for the fabulous takeout offerings she plans for the holidays. Maybe we'll get a sneak peek on that, too.
