Galco's Soda Pop Stop Is Like the Grimey's of Carbonation

Posted By on Tue, Sep 14, 2010 at 6:18 AM

Whoa, remember just the other week, when we were talking about the lack of diversity in the soda industry, what with Coke, Pepsi and Dr. Pepper controlling pretty much everything, and therefore us, with their bubbly hegemonic grip? Well, check out Galco's Soda Pop Stop in Los Angeles, home to some 500 kinds of soda, almost all from small independent bottlers, and almost none containing high-fructose corn syrup. This guy is my new hero — and not just because he calls bullshit on diet soda. I wonder if he carries maekkol — I don't even know how to spell it in English — which is a Korean soda you can only get outside the cities there, made from roasted barley (pori), and which I try to make an approximation of at home by making Korean barley tea, letting it cool and mixing it with RC cola. (Serves me right for getting obsessed with a Korean soda and moving to a city where you can't even get Korean beer at a Korean restaurant.)

Anyway, if you're prone to geekiness and like to drink soda, you're gonna love this guy, too. (There's even a segment of this video Juggalos can appreciate.) I want to go to this store so bad.
