Venerable Cafe MacK & Kate's Moving to Franklin

Posted by Dana Kopp Franklin on Fri, Sep 10, 2010 at 1:58 PM

Southern Living has ranked MacK & Kates among its 7 Nashville Restaurants You Gotta Try
Kingston Springs' loss is Cool Springs' gain — MacK & Kate's is moving from rural Cheatham County to a bustling spot in Williamson County.

For years, MacK & Kate's has been a popular dinner destination on Main Street in Kingston Springs, attracting neighbors as well as visitors from Nashville and Franklin. "MacK & Kate’s is the kind of place that encourages happily surprised and satisfied diners to spread the word about their marvelous discovery," Kay West said in a Scene review a few years ago.

Owners Jan and Bernie Strawn spun off a sister restaurant, Macke's, in Green Hills in 2006. (Both are named after the Strawns' daughters, Mackenzie and Kate.) No changes are planned at Macke's.

The new MacK & Kate's location is near the intersection of Franklin Road and Moores Lane, in the Camden Commons mixed-use development in Gateway Village. The area is described as Franklin, but as the development proclaims on its website, it's where "Cool Springs, Franklin and Brentwood intersect."

The restaurant's owners' said in a release that they are sad to leave Kingston Springs and that the decision was a hard one. "However, we have decided as a family that Franklin would be a wonderful fit for our innovative concepts and great food," they said.

MacK & Kate's will remain in Kingston Springs through Oct. 16 (closed for a private party on Sept. 25). The new place will open for dinner Friday, Nov. 12, "to cook the beginning of what will be new memories, new and old friends and great food." Eventually, dinner, lunch and brunch will be served.

Green Hill / Franklin, Green Hills / Franklin, ad nauseum. Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. Enjoy your vacuous polyester subdivision hell.

Wishing them a wonderful and happy new adventure. The majority of Kingston Springs residents pallets are more prone to your meat and three/barbeque/mexican cuisine. I am not saying that KS do not deserve a fine dining establishment at all, just from a business perspective, they will thrive in Cool Springs/Franklin area.

53 miles: cool springs does indeed make me want to throw up in my mouth a little, but who can blame going where the money is, especially in a feeble economy?

So excited to have Mack and Kate's closer to home. Was worth the drive before but imagine the possibilities of it being only 10 minutes away!

So sorry you left Kingston Springs because it means I will no longer have the opportunity to eat your really great food. Your moving to Franklin may have been Kingston Springs' loss but so is my business to you over your move.
