What's New at Mambu

Posted by Dana Kopp Franklin on Wed, Aug 25, 2010 at 6:00 AM

In my Food Biz column in the Nashville Post section of this week's City Paper, I checked in with chef-owner Anita Hartel at Mambu.

She's redone a room off the bar with a retro vibe to beckon folks to enjoy after-work cocktails and introduced a new happy hour — 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday — and a special bar menu of small plates in the $5 to $7 range.

Mambu’s sliced-pork sliders come on toasted focaccia bread with pomegranate barbecue sauce for $7. A longtime favorite on the dinner menu, shrimp and pork dumplings with a spicy dipping sauce, pop up on the bar menu for $6. There’s also a margherita pizza topped with mozzarella, parmesan and fresh heirloom tomatoes from Hartel’s garden.

Recent cocktail specials include a marriage of fresh cantaloupe puree and local Corsair vanilla vodka. Both red and white sangria are just $5. There’s also a great perk for wine drinkers who arrive early: At 4 p.m., wine is $4 per glass, $5 at 5, $6 at 6 and $7 at 7.

The only bad news is that while Mambu focuses on dinner and happy hour, Hartel has discontinued lunch service. It's a loss of a good lunch option in Midtown. But as soon as the weather cools a bit, we can find solace after 4 on Mambu's pretty covered patio.
