Woodland Wine Merchant has apparently recovered sufficiently from the thousands of sweaty tomatophiles that clogged their parking lot last weekend during the Tomato Arts Festival. Yet they want to invite us back, specifically to a Spanish Wine Dinner at Marché. The crew at Marché always delivers, and each dish will be accompanied by a delicious Spanish wine.

Wednesday, Aug. 25
$40 per person
RSVP by calling Marché at 262-1111.

Meanwhile, Grand Cru has a couple of fun events planned during the next couple of weeks. First off is their Tequila Tasting at Tequila's Restaurant.
Saturday, Aug. 28
6:30-8:30 p.m.
Tequilas Mexican Restaurant
3736 Annex Ave.
$15 per person
6 Tequilas and a Top Shelf Margarita

If you don't recognize where Annex Avenue is, I'll give you the hint that it's right around the corner from the Strike 'n Spare on Charlotte.

Paquí Silvera Tequila is highly refined, elegant and smooth. This sophisticated aromatic spirit delivers fresh agave, herbaceous, sweet, and floral notes of jasmine and honeysuckle, with honey and citrus on the nose, which continues on the palate and has a clean, exceptionally smooth slightly spicy, peppery finish. Served neat, it elicits wonderful aromas and flavors, and it is very versatile as an ingredient in cocktails as well as in culinary recipes. One of the best Silver Tequilas that we have tasted!

Using Blue Weber Agave 8-to-12-years old gives an agave plant more time to mature and develop a sense of terroir and nuance. Spicy and peppery (which come to think of it is just another spice...), Paquí Silvera finishes a touch dry with savory, citrusy ending. Great on its own or mixed in a fine cocktail, Paquí Silvera is meant to be sipped. It would pair nicely with a good cigar.

Grand Cru is hosting the next event in cooperation with Bosco's on Tuesday, Aug. 31. Join them as they taste the Wines of Costa d'Oro and meet the Winemaker Gary Burk.
They'll be serving two Chardonnays and two Pinot Noirs with appetizers 5:30-6:30 pm.
$20 per person
For reservations, call 385-0050.

Horizon Wine and Spirits presents a tasting of the offerings of Esporao Winery along with food pairings at Rumours East in East Nashville on Thursday, Aug. 26 from 5:30-8 p.m. Esporao makes some wonderful wines in Portugal, and they are quite affordable to boot. $20 gets you five wines and five small plates.
