First will be an official half-day Memphis Barbecue Network Judges School. This action-packed and fun-filled half-day class is for anyone who is enthusiastic about barbecue and will cover all aspects of barbecue judging and even provides the opportunity to taste barbecue from some of the top teams in the Memphis network. Whether you want to become a sanctioned judge, learn more about what the judges are looking for in case you want to try competitive cooking, or just want to improve your own home barbecue technique, this class has a lot to offer. Class will be in session on Saturday, Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the aVenue at 120 Third Ave S. Tuition is $100 and you can pay the bursar here.
Finally, after a five-year absence, the beloved Swine Ball is returning to Nashville. Since it is also being held at the aVenue on Saturday evening, starting at 7 p.m., they better bust butt to clean up after the Q School to set up for the party. Entertainment at the Swine Ball will be provided by the Jason Bozik Band. Expect to be fitted with a prosthetic snout upon entrance, and prepare for a fun-filled evening with great BBQ from ArlieQue, cold beer and good times. Tickets are $65 and include a one-day pass to the festival.
