Our sister publication The City Paper reports that Las Fiestas Charras, a Mexican restaurant in the Inglewood neighborhood of East Nashville, caught fire last night, bringing dozens of fire trucks and police cars to the scene. Thick smoke poured onto Gallatin Pike, complicating firefighting efforts. The fire was extinguished fairly quickly, and nobody was hurt, but the restaurant appeared to be heavily damaged.
Las Fiestas Charras opened less than a year ago at 3935 Gallatin Pike, the former location of Las Maracas. Though it hasn't yet gotten a lot of coverage in the food press, Out & About magazine gave Las Fiestas Charras a positive write-up this spring and described it as a popular neighborhood hangout for the GLBT community.
As always, it's sad and painful when an independent, family-owned restaurant suffers such a loss. We wish them well.
