But such is the plan for this Thursday, July 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Krispy Kreme shop at 2103 Elliston Place. And every donor who shows up gets more than just one free doughnut — they'll walk away with a whole box of glazed Krispy Kremes.
(I mean, I assume they'll walk away with the box of doughnuts. It's possible, though inadvisable, to eat a whole box in one sitting. That would certainly be a fatigue-blasting sugar rush.)
To schedule a blood donation appointment, call Krispy Kreme at 329-1100. Walk-ins are also welcome. Go to the American Red Cross site for more information about donating blood. (Go to the official American Red Cross Blood Donors Facebook page to see this rad picture of celebrity spokes-rocker Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy.) The Red Cross is also doing a NASCAR-related blood drive that includes a sweepstakes to win a 2011 Ford Fiesta.

I guess the series of doughnut-hole shaped tubes that make up the Internet got mixed up between the U.S. Krispy Kreme site and the Canadian French-language one.
And it's all so charming in French. "Qu'est-ce que 'Krispy Kreme'?" is the query. "Beignets et Café Depuis 1937" is the response. And how 'bout them lighted-up signs: "Alors, lorsque la Lumière Chaude est allumée arrêtez-vous pour savourer quelques beignets 'Chauds à l’Instant'!"
Hey, Francophones: Alors you too!

Hey, the Friendly Confines is ME, not some lousy Krispy Kreme.
@Wrigley Field: Yes, I know, sir (or ma'am -- what gender are baseball parks?) that you are the original Friendly Confines.
I had a long-ago boss who called our workplace, the Nashville Banner Copy Desk, the friendly confines. As a result, I think of the phrase in reference to many friendly (but confined) places.
Please forgive my impudence.
Heehee! Dana I was going to say the same thing. I thought "Friendly Confines" referred to the Nashville Banner copy desk, circa 1991.
