Bon jour, y'all. Today is Bastille Day, when French people celebrate the storming of a notorious prison and the heady days when revolution reigned (but before heads really started to roll).

The spirit of France is celebrated on this day around the United States, as well, including at a couple Nashville restaurants.

At Provence, the French-inspired bakery and cafe in Hillsboro Village, there are all kinds of holiday treats, including Pork Belly Confit Salad, with crispy pork belly on frisee lettuce, and a Merguez Sausage Burger, house-made lamb sausage and minted goat cheese spread on a Provence bun with a baby green salad side. Also, get a free baguette with purchase of $10 or more while supplies last.

At Miel, the elegant bistro in Sylvan Park, a special three-course Bastille Day prix-fixe menu is offered tonight: foie gras or escargot; bouillabaisse (seafood stew) or Provencal chicken; and for dessert, profiteroles or crème brûlée. That's $45.

Rumours East is celebrating tomorrow with a splashy Bastille Day event with entertainment by Nashville Opera and a French wine tasting with food pairings. The $25 event, which will take place in Rumours East's lovely backyard, is pretty much sold out, but there are still spots inside the restaurant where you can enjoy the food and wine without entertainment for $20. For info, call the restaurant at 262-5346.

Bon appetit!
