When the weather is this nasty hot, it's all the Wino can do to drag himself off of the couch and out of the house to attend some tastings. Luckily, some of our usual subjects are throwing exciting events to make it worthwhile to crank up the A/C in the ole WinoMobile. Or you could take a cab since the air conditioning should pre-cool your ride and get you home safely after you're finished tippling.

Grand Cru is throwing a casual Wine Social on Tuesday, June 29, at 5:30 at Park Cafe at 4403 Murphy Road. Your $15 admission gets you six wines and snacks from the kitchen. Call Grand Cru at 627-3900 for more info and to hold your place at the table.

September Norman at September's in Hendersonville invites you to come in from the heat for their Martinis & Makeovers event 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 29. Get your Sex in the City on and learn makeup tips, try new colors, update your look and more at this event featuring Arbonne all-natural cosmetics.

There will be door prize drawings throughout the evening. Your $10 admission can be used toward your purchase, and martinis are just $5.

Contact Sheila Woodall for more information at 668-5724 or email Sheila at swoodall@myarbonne.com. Who couldn't use a little pampering and cocktails?

September's Restaurant, 300 Indian Lake Blvd., Bldg. B (in the Streets of Indian Lake center), Hendersonville.

Finally, Wandering Wino favorites Amerigo-Cool Springs are doing another in their series of Italian wine tastings 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 29. They will be featuring four Italian wines from wineries in Barolo, Sardinia and Tuscany. Wines will be served with light appetizers for $13 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations are not necessary.

Sella & Mosca Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva, Sardinia
Sella & Mosca La Cala Vermentino, Sardinia
Melini Orvieto Classico, Tuscany
Marchesi di Barolo Boschetti Dolcetto dAlba, Barolo

Stay cool, people.
