In one of the strangest adjectives I've seen lately in a wine newsletter, our friends at Midtown Wine and Spirits invite us all to a Heron Wine Tasting with the enigmatic winemaker Laely Heron.

I guess "enigmatic" is a compliment to some people; like when I consider it a good thing when people sometimes describe me as "quirky." At least to my face.

So if you're interested in meeting the lovely and enigmatic Laely Heron and enjoy some of her fine wines and Chef Joe Shaw's creative cuisine, head on over to Miro District on Wednesday, June 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is only $25 per person.

Shaw will present four courses specifically paired with the following Heron wines:

California Chardonnay
California Sauvignon Blanc
California Pinot Noir
Sonoma Pinot Noir
Merlot, Vin de Pays d'Oc, France
Sexto, Spain
California Cabernet Sauvignon

The Heron Manifesto
Heron Wines believes that delicious wines should be an unalienable right. Yes, an overstatement, but we really think that high-quality, approachable wine should not come at a huge price. For over a dozen years, we have heard from wine lovers from around the globe that we consistently exceed their expectations for quality, style, and balance.

If bubbles are your thing, Miel has a Sunday Summer Champagne party planned for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 27. Enjoy deliciously paired hors d'oeuvres while you enjoy the different nuances and flavors of three wonderful wines:

Franciacorta Gatta
Prosecco extra dry Maccari
Otello Rose Ceci

They are also offering an ending in classic Italian style with a taste of Limoncello Pisoni to complete the summer lineup.

The cost is $25. Wines featured by 100Percent Italiano Inc.
Seating is limited, so call to reserve a spot 298-3663.

Miel Restaurant is at 343 53rd Ave. N., just off Charlotte in the Sylvan Park neighborhood.

In what has become a regular feature in almost every Friday's Wandering Wino, September Norman invites you to another tantalizing event at her Hendersonville bistro, September's as she hosts a New Belgium Beer Tasting.

This warm weather is perfect for an icy cold beer. Join them on Tuesday, July 22, to taste five New Belgium of Colorado, hand-crafted beers. Plus meet Beer Ranger John Gartner from New Belgium brewery.

Make reservations at 822-5323.

The pairings look particularly appealing:

Fat Tire Amber Ale
Deviled Eggs with Chorizo & Olive Tapenade

Mothership Wit Organic Wheat
Vegetable Strudel with Goat Cheese Fondue

Skinny Dip Summer
Blackened Fish & Peach Relish Toastaditas

Sunshine Wheat
Cilantro-Lime Chicken Skewers with Chipotle Crema

1554 Enlightened Black Ale
Skirt Steak with Bourbon corn & Poblanos

$22 per person (excludes tax and gratuity)

Finally, in what may be the deal of the week, Amerigo-West End is having an Italian Wine Tasting on Wednesday June 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. for the ridiculously cheap price of $13. That cost covers four wines, light appetizers and even some live music. The wines will be:

Sella & Mosca La Cala Vermentino, Sardinia
Marchesi di Barolo Boschetti Dolcetto d'Alba, Barolo
Sella & Mosca Cannonau di Sardegna Reserva, Sardinia
Melini Orvieto Classico, Umbria

No reservations are necessary, and you should have no reservations about going. Just go!
