We’re happy to hear that the Great Flood hasn't derailed one of the finest food fundraisers of the year, Generous Helpings. The giant party brings together 30 or so restaurants offering samples of their favorite dishes. It's unique in not only exciting your taste buds, but also giving you a chance to quiz some of the town’s best chefs about how they work their magic. As you pile your plate with food, you can sample beer, wine and cocktails donated by spirited local distributors. The best thing, of course, is that proceeds go to Middle Tennessee's Table, a Second Harvest-affiliated program that rescues perishable food to help feed folks in need. Last year, the party moved from the convention center to the indoor areas of the Nashville Farmers' Market. Jeff Themm, who runs the market, says this year's event will be in the outdoor farm sheds. The fun runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 20. Tickets are $40 in advance (at the Second Harvest site), or $50 at the door — a real bargain for all the food, drink and fine company.
