I feel bad now for disliking Martin's so much last weekend. Hopefully they were just having opening week kinks. I’ll give them another shot in a few months.
I'll give Pat Martin $100 to shove a redneck taco in DB Fieri's face.
met Guy at the Jack Daniels BBQ and he said that Prince's didn't want to do the show. I just laughed at him.
maybe it's better:
I don't know what your experience was, but I can tell you for sure that Pat is putting out some damn fine bbq at that new place. They are still working out some issues with the time it takes for service, but the bbq is better than the old place.
my open thread question: does anyone have an update on a Flip Burger coming to Nashville? Some google searches just turned up articles about plans for one, but I could not find any current info.
last but not least the 64 Nashville burger challenge will start next week. The seeding will be announced on Sunday and the voting begins on March 16th.
Ulika,
I was with a group of 8 last Saturday and we all pretty much agreed that it was pretty mediocre. My brisket was dried out, they were out of spare ribs, we settled for baby back, and the pork was beyond fatty without any smoke flavor. I’m not an expert by any means, but I know enough to know when it's not worth my money. I've read your blog and I'll take your word for it, we'll have to give them another shot in the future.
Maybe it's better,
Pat is very committed to a quality product so give it another try sometime and hopefully it will be better.
thanks for reading the blog.
I've never understood why you'd get brisket at Martin's. It's a pork place fer-cryin-out-loud!
I have not made it to the new Martin's yet, but I love this place and will be out soon.
For those not wanting to drive out to Nolensville for pig, the B&C bar-b-que by the Melrose Kroger is awesome.
DD and D coming April 1st? You sure you're not gettin' your leg pulled with that pork?
Actually, I think Fieri said he wanted to have Prince's on DDD (he's been there and he is a fan), but it was the producers of the show who said no - they thought it was a little too "raw."
Maybe I am remembering wrong, though.
I hate to sound like a pig, but we've been to Martin's 4 times since he re-opened. Five of us went for lunch yesterday & everything was perfect. Not one single complaint & our orders included ribs, pork, briskett & turkey. I'm no expert, but the bones were damned good!
I hope they make it to Bobbie's. Despite what others have said about the new ownership, I went for the big Tweet-Up and it's as good as ever. I didn't get ice cream, though. My favorite is the sweet potato fries.
Unrelated, I visited the husband at work this week and on a whim, stopped by Koi Sushi and Thai on Columbia Highway not far from Mack Hatcher and had a really good meal. Lots of vegetarian options and great service. Husband had soup that he enjoyed as well. Don't know about the sushi though (and who would trust a vegetarian on a sushi recommendation that wasn't endangered whale anyway?).
Sam Adams will be in house tonight from 6-8 at Mt. Juliet Beer Company.
$5 growler fills of Sam Adams Boston Lager and Sam's Nobel Pils.
DD&D should go to Cori's Doghouse in Mt. Juliet. They have phenomenal hotdogs. The dogs are shipped in from New England & they use local made lobster rolls buttered & grilled.
Good suggestion, Shannon. @SL -- Judge Beans was on the list. They were casting a pretty wide net and didn't want anything already well-known like Loveless and Pancake Pantry. I included donut places, Asian, sushi, hot dog joints, grocery delis. Probably 40 suggestions in all. That's why it's anyone's guess where they'll go.
They'll be here a couple of days the first week of April.
My work firewall has sadly blocked me from commenting on Bites so I have been not here as much as I would like lately but as it gets closer to my time to leave Nashville, I did write up a little love letter to Nashville eating and drinking on my blog, check it out at: http://www.forwardeating.com/?p=48
I talked to the Triple D folks too, and they said they weren't doing Prince's because it had recently been done on another Food Network show. The rep couldn't remember which show it was because she doesn't actually work for the network, she just works for Triple D.
Subject for future study: Cori's Doghouse.
I agree, Mr. Pink. Cori's just came on my radar, and I'm counting the days until Lent is over so I can really enjoy the full experience. I suggest a Bites contributors and readers long lunch trip!
@RyanB -- your post is a tribute to some of the great places here in town. We've missed you here on Bites, and I wish you best of luck in your new career. Remember -- all roads lead to Nashville, so maybe we'll see you here again.
Miel is doing a Sunday supper starting today, available for dine-in or carry out:

I am a sucker for a good hot dog, so curiosity got the best of me and I drove out to Mt Juliet to Cori's yesterday.
The menu is tremendous - there are at least 20 different kinds of hot dogs, plus several kinds of sausages. Like, Hot Diggity Dogs, they are named by location (Chicago, New York, etc).
The buns are huge and completely envolop the hot dog. And they are unique, like a thick slice of Texas toast split down the middle.
I think the best one that I tried was the "Georgia." It had pimento cheese and coleslaw, if I remember correctly.
BP: Cori's is the only hotdog I'll drive that far out of my way for! If it were any closer to my house I would stop by there every day. I love the 'Jersey Italian' with grilled peppers & onions, diced potatoes, & mustard. Their sandwiches are pretty amazing too.
Here's the menu if anyone is interested.

Dude, I live in Hermitage and Cori's House of Dogs is AWESOME! I used to go to Hot Diggity Dog, but now I go to Cori's. They have a huge selection and everything is amazing. The only warning: if you want your Chicago on a poppy seed bun, you are going to be disappointed. They use the amazing bread for all the dogs.
so we attempted to have lunch at the SillyGoose. rather amazed to see only 4 tables and all of them full at 11:30 already (not really full. one table had only one person). For a "forward thinking" menu, they certainly have no idea of a business plan. The coffee shop next door must have been 5 times the size and they only sell coffee. so we decided "appropriate name" and along with at least a dozen other prospective diners ambled across the street to the Rose Pepper Cantina.
