This week's dining review features Flatrock Cafe, the Nolensville Road sandwich shop-cum-live music venue on the former site of a car lot.

A labor of love for many neighbors, including owner Ron Haislip, Flatrock has quickly become a gathering spot, attracting Woodbine residents with its long-awaited roster of coffee, WiFi and sandwiches.

Americana artist Irene Kelley is booking a roster of fellow singer-songwriters, who perform original music on Saturday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 for dinner, with a $5 suggested donation to go to the musicians. For booking information, contact Kelley at Irenie777@aol.com.

A list of upcoming performers follows after the jump.

March 13: Phil Lee

March 20: Kristi Rose and Fats Kaplin

March 27: Like Candy Red

April 10: Austin Cunningham

April 17: Irene Kelley

April 24: Jack Silverman

May 1: East Side Story

Phil Lee's coming to my neighborhood and nobody told me? At least if my lawn mower disappears this weekend, I know where to direct the cops.

From what I hear, this place may be the best new listening room in town. I say "from what I hear" because when I tried to get into the last Like Candy Red acoustic show, the parking lot was so thoroughly congested there was no way anyone else could've been wedged in.
The neighbors in that area love music and have no other options, and the crowds aren't jaded we-dare-you-to-entertain-us types. I think most of the Flatrock's shows have been full. And the bookings are great, as the lineup above should tell you. Go through the Jack Silverman Ordeal, and I guarantee you'll come away with Stockholm Syndrome.

Oh, and Phil Lee? One of the best songwriter/performers I've ever heard in my life. I can't reiterate often enough how good this show will be. I make a case for him here:

To Carrington Fox, Jack Silverman and my friends at the "Scene". Thanks for the shout out for the Flatrock Cafe and the music there. We are so excited about our new venue as we are bringing folks in from all over Metro Nashville to perform on the weekends. Proving that South Nash is cool too. Anyone who's ever been to South Congress in Austin, Tx. knows that Nolensville Rd could easily be it's sister Street and we are heading in that direction...they offer hip shopping, food, coffee and music, music, music. Don't forget we have some great choices for residential properties (it's a great place to live)Flatrock Community is looking forward to the Cafe's extended hours, more nights of music to be added and parties on the deck to come as the weather gets warmer. Not to mention great food and coffee all thru the week.

My wife and I are amazed at the talent Irene has brought into the Cafe. Last night performance from our Barista SaraBeth and her band, "And OK" and "Like Candy Red" (boy those are so different than the punk rock band names we had back in the 80's) Anyway, I could not believe how great they were in their own ways, Sarabeth with her own personal Cajun style music and the "White Soul" girl group of Like Candy Red. I wish sometimes that I could sit in the crowd and just listen, what great talent they are! They are definitely welcome at the Flatrock anytime! I'm so proud of them!
