Events / Urban Farming Belmont Hosts 'Fast Food Nation' Author on Monday

Fast Food Nation author Eric Schlosser will speak at Belmont University on Monday. The event is at 7 p.m. at Belmont Heights Baptist Church, 2100 Belmont Blvd.
More recently, Schlosser was a co-producer and appeared in the hit documentary Food, Inc. That film has won numerous awards and further energized the debate over practices in the American corporate food industry. It's nominated for best feature documentary at this year's Oscars, which take place March 7.
Schlosser will discuss the safety and sustainability of the U.S. food supply. Belmont says the lecture is part of the school's campus-wide academic theme for the year, "A Paradise Lost." Various events aim to help students, faculty and staff engage in the difficult questions surrounding the issue of sustainability. Topics throughout the year include the environment, ecology and interactions between and among organisms and their surroundings.
The event is free and no ticket or registration is required, but seating in the (lovely, historic) former church sanctuary is limited to a few hundred.
