I don't have a dog in the Superbowl fight, and don't really care who wins. I'm just using it as an excuse to buy Fritos and Cheetos. Fritos for scooping chili, Cheetos for enjoying for their own, pure cheesy crunch.
Does anyone really try all those "Superbowl menu" ideas in the cooking magazines? Football-shaped cakes and Pigskin Pizzas and such? I remember on menu with a lentil soup recipe -- lentil soup for company, really? Or do you depend on the tried-and-true chili, Rotel dip and subs?
The post earlier this week about kids and nutrition inspired Whole Foods peppy public affairs person Brittany Conner to throw WF's considerable support behind the effort. She joins the ranks of concerned individuals, companies and parents nationwide, including First Mom. Manna-Food Security Partners have joined the effort, too.
Bacon & Caviar is gladdening hearts in Melrose. So much good stuff happening in that neighborhood, which has waited a long time for an artisanal eatery movement to call its own.
And finally, Heinz redesigned its ketchup packet. Easier to dip, and holds three times more. Not sure whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.

For me, Super Bowl food is chili, chips (and various dips), wings, beer. I don't want my food to ever be shaped like a non-food item.
Celebrating the wedding anniversary on Saturday night, and plan to try out Smiling Elephant before heading over to see the Long Players. We simply couldn't ignore the glowing review.
There's a new sushi joint on Elliston that looks about ready to open. I believe it's called O'Sake, it's on the first floor of the two story building across the street from Gold Rush. I don't have any other details, other than that's some cojones to be throwing down right across the street from the undisputed champ- Samurai.
I agree with hungryhippo. Super Bowl food should include lots of meet, preferably smoked, salty finger foods (chips, dips, salsas) and plenty of spice. And beer. After all, it's a football game, not a baby shower.
For those in the Mt. Juliet area:
Tonight a rep from New belgium Breweing will be at Mt. Juliet Beer Co. and they will have $5 New Belgium growler fill-ups. This includes Fat Tire, Blue Paddle and 1554.
I don't think they serve on-site, so bring an empty growler, or pick one up there (glass growler for $3, plastic for $1).

I'd not only rather have baby shower food, I'd rather go to a hundred baby showers than watch any football game on television. Yawn.
I RARELY get to leave the house, but recently, I've been able to make two trips to the Wild Cow. Unfortunately, I never have a camera the takeout box doesn't do much justice to the meals. But they've been very good. I was skeptical of a Vietnamese tofu stew (?), but it had a wonderful flavor (it was a special Monday). And my only complaint about a pseudo muffaletta was that I would have liked a lot more olive salad on it. But I could eat that stuff by itself (and I have).
Does anyone know where to get a good fried onion loaf? It's kind of like onion rings but thinner sliced, battered, crammed together and fried in the fry basket and severed as a loaf. I think Corky's may have them but anywhere else?
Last night I met up with fellow commenter Ryan B (RyMB in twitter-speak) and our other Twitter pal, TNLocavore, for dinner at ChaChah followed by drinks at Patterson House.
TNLocavore is visiting from Knoxville for the Blissdom blogger convention out at Opryland. It was our first time to meet her in person, so we had to be sure and show her a really great time. Our experiences at both places were fantastic. I can honestly say it was THE best meal I've had at ChaChah. The short ribs were to-die-for, and I also loved the brussels sprouts and beet salad w local Bonnie Blue feta. I will be back again very soon to order the exact same thing.
Oh, and TNLocavore brought me a gift - Benton's Prosciutto! I'll be devouring it this weekend. Will report back :-)
For the Super Bowl, I'm doing chili, bacon-wrapped jalapenos, and buffalo chicken dip along with a big punch bowl of Bourbon slush for drinking. Not too exciting culinarily but indulgent for me.
A new gyros place opened in East Nashville, King Solomon Gyros. Has anyone tried it yet?
I've seen others ask but no answers as yet - what happened to Cuisine of India ?
Re: Cuisine of India
Not sure exactly, but for a little over a month, a "closed for renovation" sign graced the front door. A few months back they started having a dinner buffet during the weekend...I don't know if it was grasping for straws or what, but the dinner crowd was always very thin. For what it's worth, I far preferred ordering from the menu to buffet, so I was a annoyed by the dinner buffet. I heard someone say that the same folks who ran Cuisine of India are going to be running the mega-burrito-whatever place. Odd.
Also, from what I understand, a gyro place is going where the 2 tattoo parlors used to be (by H. Cue's).
I saw the King Solomon sign last time I was in that part of the kingdom. *eyes skyward* Please let it be real gyro meat and not preformed lamb-strips...and real tzatsiki not ranch dressing.
Thought I'd share this info here...
