Roly-Poly Shape Presages Dementia in Study

Posted By on Thu, Jan 28, 2010 at 8:28 AM

Just a thought as you weigh that slab of cheesecake for dessert: In a 30-year study of 1,500 Swedish women, those whose extra weight around the middle made their waists nearly the same measurement as their hips were twice as likely to have dementia at age 70. The exact waist-to-hip ratio was .8. The study appeared in the journal Neurology.

A similar study made in 2008 by Kaiser Permanente that included men had the same results. Both were reported by the Berkeley Wellness newsletter.
