I Got a Little Red Rooster...

Driving home from work last week, I was suddenly confronted by a car pulling a humongous red rooster on a trailer. Now it was a Friday night, but it was still too early for me to be seeing pink elephants or giant chickens.

I pulled up behind the Gallus Gallusmobile close enough to read the bumper sticker, "Follow me to the Red Rooster on Music Row." So I did. Well, actually, I stopped by the next day. Soon to be hatched in the former space of On the Rocks is the Red Rooster Bar and Music Hall.

But not yet. Even though I was drawn there by the traveling poultry, the restaurant is still an active construction zone. I did happen to catch the new executive chef Thomas leaning against the fence watching the world go by on Demonbreun. According to him, the Red Rooster will have two separate halves for patrons who come for the music and others who are there for the food and drink. The entire establishment will be nonsmoking.

The menu is expected to be similar to their sister restaurant in Murfreesboro, the Blue Rooster. Expect typical pub fare of wraps and sandwiches. Like the original Red Rooster in Memphis, the emphasis will be on showcasing bands and offering a VIP experience for the heartiest of partiers.

The announced opening date is Thursday Dec. 17, but as someone who is in the final strokes of a home remodeling job, I wouldn't make reservations for Friday. Unless they have Superman and the Flash as contractors, it may be a while yet.

As always, if you get there before we do, give us your impressions here at Bites.
