Git Yore Eatin' Pants On: Our Weekly Thread Is All You Can Hold

You look great in that outfit -- going somewhere nice?  Did you stumble across a great find you can tell about?

Maybe you read something funny or edifying on the Innernetz that you just have to share. Maybe you want to talk TV food -- we got that game, too.

Does anyone know what is happening with the old Trace building? It has been vacant for months! Seems a shame the owners are loosing all that income.
Second question - I ate at Tabouli's the other night and it was pretty gross. Other than Kalamata's, where is good greek/mediterranean food?

SAD NEWS: Genie's Persian Palace in Cool Springs (Franklin) has closed. Not sure when it happened, but the lights are off. Makes me sad because I really wanted one of those dessert recipes.
Taking the title of "best ethic food to fill your gut when it's cold outside" is Bombay Bistro in Cool Springs. The place is slammed at lunch, the quality has improved as well.

GuS has finally arrived in Nashville!
If you've never has Grown-up Soda before you're in for a real treat. The italian soda with fruit flavors is all natural and made with sugar (instead of high fructose corn syrup). Plus it is not that sweet - try the Meyer Lemon with bits of pulp.
Where can you pick up a bottle? The Green Hills Whole Foods.

Villager, I had another good Middle Eastern meal at Fattoush on Charlotte. Get there early and get the special. Genie's Persian Palace, which is now closed (see Dave's comment below) was also said to be good, but I never made it. We had gotten a comment about Genie's closing on a Genie's post from months. Thanks for the info, Dave. Sorry to hear it.

I can confirm that Genie's is indeed closed... and the space is already empty. I'm really going to miss it -- homemade butter and all. Not that it's surprising -- the location sucked bigtime.
The childlike optimist in me is hoping that they're just looking for a better location and will be open again. The bitter old man in me wants to go break some windows and howl at the moon.

Villager: I hear Zavo's in East Nashville is excellent. They have limited hours though. Thursday-Sunday, 5-11pm (I think).

Provence Breads in Hillsboro Village is having a fall festival this afternoon, 11am-2pm. Activities include a dog costume contest. The winner's owner gets a year of free bread!

Finally made it to Far East Nashville. I ordered the pho which was made solely with chicken broth for some reason. The ingredients were fresh but the lack of flavor in the broth will keep me from going back.

Zavo's is the place to go. Easy to find, 1115 Porter Road across from the Family Wash. I had the Pork Souflaki with a side of peas, my wife had the Mousakka (vegeterian), we started with the Med. Platter (a sampling of hummus, tzatziki, feta, olives, and more), and finished off with a giant piece of cake with a berry sauce. I'm glad my wife couldn't finish hers, 'cause I sure did!
Zavo's made me realize that the other "Greek" restaurants that I've been to around town aren't making an effort to be authentic, but rather they all have similar versions of what Americans think Mediterranean food should taste like. I'm very glad I found this place.
