As the gentle rains of summer give way to the gentle rains of fall promising the gentle rains of winter, you know you want to get out of the house. Why not seek out a new favorite vintage at one (or more) of these wine events?

Grand Cru is sponsoring a Daedalus Wine Tasting at Tin Angel next Monday, September 28th, from 6:00-8:00 pm and offering the opportunity to meet Pam Walden, the owner of Daedalus Cellars. Pam is known for producing a classic Oregon Pinot Noir in very small batches. The chance to try them out and hear Pam's winemaking philosophy should be a treat.

If you just adore a penthouse view, but beer's your thing consider the 3rd Annual Octoberfest, a benefit for the W.O. Smith School of Music. W.O. Smith provides music instruction and instruments for children who have a talent for music but can't afford professional instruction. Volunteers from the Nashville Symphony and studio musicians donate their time and expertise to make it possible to further the music education of these kids. It's a great cause that deserves Nashville's continued support.

Taste over 65 beers from around the world enjoy the view from one of Nashvilles coolest new digs, Rhythm on Music Row.

Saturday October 3rd

If you aren't feeling particularly philanthropic, but still want to get your wine on, Vinea is continuing their semi-regular Saturday tasting series with some organic Cabernet Sauvignons this Saturday September 24 with their friends at Corrieri's Formaggeria, from 2:00-4:00 PM.

Here's what they've got on tap:

    2006 Jason Stephens Cabernet Sauvignon

    2006 Moon Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

    2007 Broadside Cabernet Sauvignon

    2006 Pisoni San Siro Rosso

    2006 Pargua II

    2007 Educated Guess Cabernet Sauvignon

It looks like a nice offering of cabs from all over the world, most of which are less than $20.00/bottle. Vinea is also offering a 10% discount on any of the selected wines the day of the tasting. At $5.00, it's a steal.

Finally if it's book-learnin' you seek, the grandaddy of Nashville wine classes continues next week, but with a slight twist. Sunset Grill has conducted a Wine Class 101 for the past fourteen years. This year they are moving across the street to their sister restaurant Cabana.

Craig Clifft, originator of the class will again teach this year's classes. This class is for those who want to learn the basics of wine and can be fun for those more familiar, after all, it is drinking wine with friends and perfect strangers!

The class starts at 5:45pm

You may sign up for the class at http://www.sunsetgrill.com/wineC

or by calling Cabana at 577-2262.

This weeks class combines two of my favorite things.

"Wines for Grilling" September 30

Price: $12.00

It could only be better if they taught it on the sideline of a Titans game.

Now get busy drinking.
