Chew on This: Chuy's Coming to Town

Posted by Carrington Fox on Mon, Aug 24, 2009 at 12:03 PM

Over at our new sister publications, Nashville Post and City Paper, they're reporting the October arrival of Texas chain Chuy's in the former Beethoven's Grille location at 3601 Mallory Lane.

Can anyone familiar with Chuy's Tex-Mex-serving Elvis shrines tell us what to look forward to?

Chuy's is awesome. Great margaritas and the chips and salsa rank high. If this one has the cool, happening vibe of the Chuy's on Barton Springs in Austin, Nashville is in for a treat.

Chuy's tries to me a little more New Mex than Tex Mex, so you'll likely see more green chiles and such. I don't know a single Tex-pat who doesn't miss their creamy jalapeno dipping sauce.

I was worried about the vibe thing too, when they opened a Chuy's off of 183 in North Austin, but they pulled it off. The vibe of the Barton Springs location is not replicable. But the vibe of the 183 location is, and we'll be lucky to have it. Mmmmm, creamy jalapeno dipping sauce...

Really, Mallory Lane in Cool Springs? Blech.
I've only been to the Barton Springs location, which seems more East Nashville than Williamson County. I would have hoped for a better, less DUI-prone location than the Franklin area.

Well since I never go to Cool Springs / Brentwood unless I absolutely positively have to, guess Chuy's won't be getting any of my business ... a restaurant would have to be world-shatteringly special for me to make a trip down there just for that.

Chuy's is good--much better than most Tex-Mex places in Nashville (a very low bar, I realize). I don't think it's worth a drive out to Cool Springs to eat there, but if you're out that way for some other reason, give it a try.

We eat at Chuy's every time we go to Austin. Thumbs up!

I grew up about 40 miles from the border and, while i have a serious distaste for anything other than sonoran style cuisine, chuys was always very enjoyable. . .perhaps because it didn't really try to be 'mexican'. Anything from the mesquite broiler is delicious, but any of their other concoctions will probably destroy your willingness to return in this lifetime.

I LOOOVE BLAND FOOD...I have been in Nashville a long time. Day and night I searched for a restaurant that could deliver on some tasteless food, and thank you Virgin Lady for answering my prayers! Leave taste for wall decor, that's what I always say. If you like unsalted meat and super tart cocktails, meet me at Chuy's Cool Springs!
