Pretty Room, Friendly Service Go Far at Goha Ethiopian

This week's dining review features Goha Ethiopian restaurant, where we whiled away a lazy afternoon scooping up delicious vegetables with our fingers and sipping rich coffee made from beans roasted on the premises.

Goha now ranks at the top of my local Ethiopian dining experiences, largely due to the comfortable sunny surroundings in the freshly renovated room. Beyond that, our meal of awaze tibs, injera, doro wat, lentils and vegetables was so similar to the berbere-infused repertoires at other local Ethiopian eateries--Gojo, Abay and the bygone (and beloved) Bethel among them--that it is difficult for this East African-food novice to recommend one menu over another.

When dining in Ethiopian restaurants, what do you look for? Do you seek out superior injera? Are there particular dishes you want, or would you just as soon have a buffet? Would an awesome minchet abish or a vast vegetarian array win your heart? Or do you really just want a pretty, well-lighted dining room?

All things considered, where is your favorite Ethiopian food in Nashville?

I had Goha on my radar screen for a couple weeks. But when I saw your review last week, I couldn't wait any longer. I met up with 10 of my meetup members, and we have a wonderful time (about 2 1/2 hours).
Gojo had been at the top of my list. I enjoy their buffet options during the week. But I loved the atmosphere at Goha. It's very warm and welcoming and the food was delicious. I had the Goha salad (could have used a little jalapeno heat) and the Goha Combo. The Awaze tibs were amazingly tender and I love the extensive vegetable selection they provide.

I thought it would be impossible to find better Ethiopian food than Gojo on Thompson Lane. Goha, though was equally good -- the spiced cabbage and three kinds of spiced lentils. So friendly, too. And that tiny, bracing cup of coffee was unforgettable.

I know this is off topic, but does anyone know if Abay has closed? I wanted to go for lunch today, but couldn't find it yesterday and no one is answering the phone.

I actually called Abay as I was writing this post and someone answered at dinner time and said that yes they were serving dinner.
