After being forced by developers to move out of his longtime Melrose spot, The Sutler owner Johnny Potts has resettled in Columbia, Tenn.
Just over three years after he vacated the Eighth Avenue storefront, Potts got a call from a friend who wanted to purchase the old Ranch House steakhouse in Columbia and wanted Potts to fill it with his beloved restaurant-bar.
The second generation of The Sutler opened in July and serves the same menu from the Melrose days, including a grouper sandwich and a Reuben. Potts still carries Yazoo beer on tap, but he refuses to call it by its proper name, Dos Perros. Instead, Potts calls it Two Dogs Fucking.
From the deck of The Sutler, Potts overlooks the Duck River, with a view of blue heron, egrets and other wildlife. "It's just beautiful," he says.
If you get out to The Sutler before we do, please report back on Bites.
Located at 900 Riverside Drive (phone: (931) 380-9080), The Sutler opens at 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday and serves "until they stop coming and the last one leaves."
