Thanks to Beth at Eat.Drink.Smile for passing on this tidbit. Print out this coupon--or flash it to the barista on your iPhone/Blackberry, just in case the neon "I Am a Douche" sign on your back isn't working--and you can have one free pastry when you buy a beverage at any participating Starbucks this morning, from store opening until 10:30 a.m.
Included in the deal are muffins, scones, bagels, croissants, rolls, breads, and the ever-popular "Gluten Free Orange Valencia Cake," among other items. The offer is only good while supplies last, though--so if you're not an early riser, you might be better off with a Sweet 16th Heavenly Scone and a Mayan hot chocolate from Crema.

I'm off now to get one -- at least today a Starbucks baked goodswill be worth every penny.
I'm ashamed to admit that this promotion actually got me to leave the house earlier than normal this morning so that I could get an iced coffee and a banana-chocolate chip coffee cake and still be at work on time.
In other Sbux news, there was an interesting article about the big green "rebranding" a few of their Seattle stores - by removing any trace of the Starbucks name, and according to this article, ripping off a neighborhood bar in the process:

As a former Seattleite I find it hilarious that Starbucks (who brought the "Seattle coffeehouse" worldwide) feels that the way to sell coffee in their hometown now is to make people think they are anywhere but Starbucks.
a warning that Starbucks (in Oprah/KFC Grilled style) did not prepare for this promotion...I showed up at 8:30 a.m. and the downtown location was out of most pastry varieties. No complaints, as free is free, but you might get the last neglected oatmeal raisin.
