PM/ChaChah and Tribe/Play Owners Team Up on Church Street

Posted by Carrington Fox on Wed, Jul 8, 2009 at 1:54 PM

Belmont Boulevard restaurant impresario Arnold Myint, owner of PM and ChaChah, is teaming up with Zeus Enterprises principles David Taylor, Keith Blaydes, Joe Brown and Todd Roman--the team behind Tribe, Play and Red--to introduce a dining concept that combines Zeus' tradition of nightlife entertainment with Myint's culinary vision.

The yet-to-be-named restaurant-bar will be located in the space that currently houses Red. Executive chef Myint will create a menu to serve the 100 diners in the Red space, along with the bar crowd at Tribe. the Asian-themed repertoire will reflect much of the flavor and small-plate presentation at Myint's other restaurants.

"It's kind of like PM is mating with ChaChah and the baby is Asian tapas," says Myint, who will partner with the Zeus owners in the venture. The restaurant will serve lunch and dinner, with takeout available and a late-night menu until 4 a.m.

The restaurant, located at 1517 Church St., will be given a sleek makeover and will include a full bar, a wall of banquettes, two levels of seating, lounge areas, cabanas and a patio. If all goes according to plan, the new concept could emerge in September.

Bites will keep you posted as soon as a name for the enterprise is finalized.

This sounds like a pretty inspired partnership. If nothing else, it should have the most entertaining menu in town.

I'll be honest, I haven't eaten at Red in a very loooong time, but now I'm really looking forward to seeing what these guys come up with.

I've lost count for the number of times Tribe has tried to overhaul their concept. Over the long haul, they are never able to maintain consistent quality.
And their unethical refusal to allow Nashville CARES to stock free condoms in the restrooms only speaks to the owner's exploitation of the community. They will get you drunk and gladly take your money, but as far as community outreach that doesn't give them publicity - you can forget it!

Speaking personally, I can attest that at least one if the partners of Zeus Enterprises has been very generous to two non-profits that I serve on the boards of. With no expectation of publicity or personal benefit, the Zeus folks and Arnold Myint have often volunteered their time and resources to help out neighborhood, arts and GLBTQ organizations.
I wish them the best of luck in this venture, if for no reason other than that Nashville can always use more good, creative restaurant concepts.

FYI. One of the owners of Tribe is Vice President of the Nashville CARES Board and they have stocked condoms from Nashville CARES in their bar for years.
Red Restaurant has given the most money to Nashville CARES of any restaurant over the past two Dining Out for Life events and has donated $18,000 over the past three years to this event.
Tribe/Red has donated ALL the food for an entire gallery at Artrageous for 1,200 guests...a fundraiser for Nashville CARES... 6 of the past 7 years.
They have raised more than $10,000 for the Nashville CARES AIDS Walk with Play Dance Bar over the past 4 years.
Please get your facts straight before making anonymous allegations about an organization that has given an extraordinary amount of financial support and labor to the GLBT community over the years.
