Recent filings with the Metro Health Department show that Virago Restaurant has dropped off plans for health department officials to review as part of the process of obtaining permits and approvals for a new food-service establishment. According to Health Department files, Virago Restaurant lists 1126 McGavock Street--a 13,000-square-foot warehouse, formerly owned by The Tennessean parent, Gannett Company-- as the address of the building to be reviewed. The brick warehouse, built in 1935, is located across the street from the now-shuttered Radius10.
Another listing on the health department docket is Whiskey Kitchen, nearby at 118 12th Ave. S., in the location of the defunct Agave Tequila Lounge, at the corner of McGavock and 12th. According to the health department, Virago and Whiskey Kitchen share the same contractor. Both buildings are currently undergoing renovation.
Virago currently operates at 1811 Division Street. Efforts to reach owner Chris Hyndman were unsuccessful.
