The only good thing about the dishwasher crapping out right before a dinner party was that it made us think smart about dessert. Since there's no better way to cut down on the washload than serving foods that don't require plates, we bought a couple dozen ice pops from Paletas in 12South and passed them 'round the table.
With a colorful array of flavors including cantaloupe, chocolate chip, strawberry and honeydew, part of the fun was picking, sharing and trading. Hibiscus made the biggest hit as people discovered the flower petals in their dark pink pops. The cayenne-flecked hot chocolate packed an unpredictable punch on one unsuspecting diner, who said she liked it much better once she "knew what was going on in there."
At $20 for eight, Paletas are a pricier proposition than, say, ice cream, but they're cost- competitive with cupcakes--and you can't beat the clean-up.
What's your favorite Paleta? What flavor would you like to see introduced?
Does anyone know someone who could repair an off-warranty LG dishwasher with a leak at the water intake?

The tamarind paleta is pretty darn good. Last summer I went by for a cucumber-lime-ginger pop. I thought they made such a flavor, but they didn't. Seems like it has potential -- the cucumber is always so tempting, except for the chile.
OMG -- No one repairs LG dishwashers. Except allegedly one person in Arrington, TN, who apparently doesn't answer the phone on weekends.
Stand by for a follow-up referral for someone to repair hardwood floors.
Seriously, the Arrington people just called back and they don't service Nashville. I called LG back and they gave me the name of someone in Greenbrier, whom I have already called. Apparently, if you have a broken LG dishwasher, you can't get it fixed in Nashville.
Anyone know the Vice President of Customer Service and Exasperation at LG?
Wait -- this same thing happened to my Bosch. Hardwood floor guy coming this weekend...
I couldn't imagine it, but now I'm totally addicted to the subtle but decadent Avocado.
Lime is by far my favorite flavor. Simple, yet sour enough to make your face pucker.
Also, I have never had good experiences with LG home products. Have you tried Mid-South Appliance Repair? Can't speak for their quality, but I know they are a bigger repair shop and do calls for Lowe's (who sells LG).
A-1 Appliances has risen to the challenge, despite the fact that LG corporate in Huntsville does not list it among the 2 people in Middle Tennessee who can fix LG products.
Oh that A-1 Appliance -- a mysterious institution to be sure but heroic with repair.
As for the Paletas, my 5 & 6 year old troops from the USN Spanish camp prefer Plum....but it is not often available.
I haven't tried all of the flavors yet, but my current faves are the tamarind chile and hibiscus.
I've been lobbying for a variation on the hot chocolate that includes some cinnamon. Until that comes along, my favorite paleta is chai.
