Hello, Bites aficionados. It's your new correspondent, Chris
Chamberlain. You may have seen me lurking around the Bites comments as
CeeElCee. I make no apologies for the dimwitted handle but offer the
fact that it harkens back to an ancient AOL login as a testament to the
length of my tenure in the online world. I am very pleased that
Carrington and Nicki have invited me to step out from behind the
pseudonym and go completely cognito here.
When I told a friend I
was considering the gig, she asked, "Are you going to replace Lee
Stabert?" Considering she is attractive, young and enthusiastic,
probably not. But do I think I can consume some bandwidth and offer
Bites readers my insights into the Nashville Foodie Scene? Heck yeah,
I can do that. I'll also make an ignorant admission about Lee: for the
first few months she was blogging for Bites, I thought she was a gay
man.
[Insert Seinfeld "not that there's anything wrong with that" reference here]
In
my defense, she did have a unisex first name, was unmarried, lived in a
charming part of East Nashville, liked to eat in precious little
bistros and kept referring to her regular dining partner as
"companion." Upon reflection, you can substitute "Hillsboro Village"
for "East Nasty" in the previous sentence, and you'll pretty much have
me nailed. So maybe I can replace her, the same way that
Steven Wright said he had the ax that George Washington used to cut
down the cherry tree. He just had to replace the handle. And the
head. But it occupies the same space, intrinsically.
What I really want to replace is her standing reservation at City House. Tandy, table for 2?

i think it was marche that she frequented the most...
i love it when you write. i miss your blog... but i guess hearing you talk about food will be so much more fun - AND - now i get to judge you... oh goody!
Next time I have to take you to lunch, which let's be honest, will be a lot through October, you will now have to throw your newfound food fame around so that neither of us has to pay. Cheers on the gig!
I was under the impression Carrington Fox was a male for the longest time. What is it with you Bites people anyway? haha... I have no room to talk, being "Erin" and all. BUT, at least I have a female spelling.
Either way, welcome! I laughed in this first post, so hopefully there will be more to come!
Did we mention the drawback of the job -- you rarely get to eat at the same place twice? It's ever onward, always.
Lee, Chris, Nicki, Carrington, Tracy Moore and "Mr. Pink."
It's like an old SNL episode of "It's Pat."
These days I feel less like Pat and more like Molly Shannon as the woman who is FIF-ty!
Well, well, well... if it ain't my good old buddy Chris hitting the big time! Congratulations on the new gig Chris. I always knew you were destined for greatness. ;) Don't forget about all the little people you stepped on (or over) to get to where you're at!
I'm no foodie, but I dig your writing big-time. Congrats on the gig.
(You're a dude?)
LOL, "It's Pat!
If you are forming a food posse, I'm available.
"Pat" is exactly what I was thinking...at least Chris's "longtime companion" does not have a unisex name.
who's tracy moore?
i missed something - again...
Tracy Moore is the Scene's music editor-turned-general assignment roving reporter who sometimes--but not frequently enough--graces Bites with her incisive food-related pop culture commentary.
I had this issue for a long time back when I was blogging for Nashville Cream. Unfortunately, once the unruly hoard over there found out I was a woman, they immediately discounted my taste in music. (Kidding, kinda.)
Chris, I look forward to reading you.
