I love tartares--tuna, steak, ooooh! salmon!--and have a hard time resisting them on menus. A couple of weeks ago, I had a pretty good, very lemony tuna tartare at Rumours East. This past weekend I ordered my favorite tartare in the whole darn city at PM.
Their tuna tartare has a (surprise!) Asian feel. The dressing is a creamy blend of mayo, sriracha and some kind of citrus. There are diced cucumbers and scallions involved. The delightful concoction is served with crispy wonton crackers and cucumber slices.
But the secret--the unexpected twist that takes the whole dish to new level--is dill. That's right: the delicate little herb that's BFF with potato salad and poached salmon adds the perfect fresh zing to the beautiful little jewels of fish. It really shows that a little creativity goes a long way.
Where else has a great tartare? Anyone remember that amazing salmon tartar they had on the menu at Marché back in the day? Anyone ever make it at home?
