Get close to your daily bread on Saturday with Provence's Artisan Bread Fest at the Hillsboro Village location.

Take the opportunity to meet new head baker Keith Brown and pepper him with questions about artisan breads. I have heard incredible things about the ovens at Provence, masterworks of engineering, only a few like them anywhere. The perfect oven -- is this the only way to get that incredible crust that's on the baguettes? If so, could they spare a corner for my loaves? (Just a couple -- they're small. k thanks.)

Take advantage of free cheese and bread samples to line up a wedge of every kind of bread and discover for yourself the difference in a pistelle and a batard. (heehee.) (that sounds like bastard). Or just go straight for the sesame semolina.

After you find your most favorite batard or other loaf, buy it and a basket of other gourmet tidbits, at prices that will be discounted all day.

Provence Bread & Cafe, 1705 21st Avenue South. 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

This sounds like a good reason to go to Provence this weekend! Keith really knows his bread and loves to talk about it, and the loaves at Provence have been looking and tasting amazing lately.
