If you receive Morsel Code, the Scene's weekly dining newsletter, you've already had a day's head start to make reservations for Mother's Day brunch--a lesson to everyone to sign up to receive Morsel Code every week.
For those of you still looking for a place to feed your mum, we'll throw you a bone this week by including the text of the Mother's Day edition of Morsel Code after the jump.
Remember, if you want to get all the tips and trends from Morsel Code in the future, you'll need to sign up to receive the weekly blast. We're just handing it to you this week, you know, because we like your mom.
If you're still looking for a place to celebrate Mother on her special day, we suggest you start with figuring out which type of gal Mom is. (Then call immediately for reservations!)
If yours is a down-home mom, you might want to start the day with a good ol' country breakfast at the Loveless Cafe (646-9700). Show you love Mom more by treating her to some world-famous biscuits--and you can stop by the Ham & Jams Country Market for any last-minute gifts.
The classic-cuisine mom might feel more at home among the escargots, French onion soup and 20-item salad bar at Sperry's. Both the Belle Meade (353-0809) and Cool Springs (778-9950) locations open at noon.
For the meat-and-potatoes mom, a steakhouse might be in order. The Palm (742-7256) opens at noon for brunch with special chef features as well as their prime beef selections and jumbo Nova Scotia lobsters. If you're looking to dine later, Morton's (259-4558) offers a Mother's Day Menu from 3-9 p.m. that includes salad, entrée, one side and dessert for $59 per person.
But what if Mom is a modern lady looking to expand her adventurous palate?
In Germantown, Mad Platter (242-2563) will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. to offer her selections such as their popular Poached Eggs "Oscar" or the decadent Strawberry & Mascarpone Stuffed French Toast. And in Green Hills, F. Scott's (269-5861) will be open from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to jazz up Mother's Day with items such as an Omelet of Andouillie Sausage, White Cheddar Cheese, Avocado and Jalapeños or Brioche French Toast with Caramelized Bananas and Maple Syrup.
And if Mom's one who wants it all, take her to the Mother's Day Brunch Buffet at 1808 Grille (340-0012), where she'll sample fare including Basil Seared Shrimp or Poached Eggs on Cornbread amid the sleek lines and rustic details of the chic dining room. The buffet is $32.50 for adults, $12 for kids and will be available from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Sure, it's Mother's Day, but the whole family can enjoy the entire weekend at the Gaylord Opryland Resort, which is offering the Family Affair package. On Saturday, three special dances will be held: the mothers-and-sons Mom Prom, the fathers-and-daughters My Heart Belongs to Daddy Dance, and the end-of-the-evening family dance party. The package includes one night at the resort, the parties, refreshments, a souvenir photo and a continental family breakfast on Sunday. (And while you're there, don't forget that Sunday is all for Mom, who would love any treatment at Relâche Spa.)
Lest we forget, if Mom can't imagine brunch without a little liquid refreshment, get thee to Ombi: A Gastropub (320-5350) for their Jazz Brunch from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m., featuring music by Tiger Fitzhugh. Bartender/owner Terrell Raley is known for his creative spins on classic cocktails, so while you're there enjoying chef Jason Love's menu, treat Mom to a Midro or Manhattan instead of another Mimosa.
