Downtown Nashville's Arcade is a strange and wondrous place. Over the past few years, the covered plaza has turned into a bustling hub for both lunching workers and art lovers (the monthly Art at the Arcade events showcase the second-floor galleries). But two stalwarts remain among the best reasons to visit: Manny's House of Pizza (best East Coast-style 'za in town) and The Peanut Shop.
Yesterday, after an impromptu lunch with some Scene folks at Koto at Fourth and Union, we ducked into the best smelling little storefront in town. The Peanut Shop sell roasted nuts of all varieties (salted and unsalted), alongside chocolate-covered goodies and various candied delights (the butter-toffeed cashews and praline pecans are extra-special). Best of all, the place feels out of time, a throwback to the childhood candy shop. If you're ever looking for a sweet treat or a savory, high-protein snack, I highly reccommend it.

The dark chocolate almonds and roasted macadamias are my favorites. But sometimes just the smell of roasted nuts is enough. It always makes me think of Christmas.
One of Nashville's true treasures. And you can order gifts online that come in nifty little Nashville tins & bags. Former Nashvillians enjoy a blast from their past at the holidays.
Thanks to Mr. Pink and Mr. Marx for introducing me to the wonders of the arcade 15 years ago (or so).
The Peanut Shop is one of the only places to get Jordan almonds by the pound at a not outrageous price. I buy once a week - when I walk in, they just scoop them out; I don't even ask for them anymore.
I love this place! Once, my supervisor came back with some WARM, fresh outta the oven salted pecans. They were to-die-for. I went and got some just 1/2 an hour later, but they weren't warm anymore. :( Don't get me wrong, they were still good though.
They've also got chocolate covered espresso beans!
