While staring at some fiddlehead ferns at Whole Foods earlier this week, my mind drifted off to last year's inaugural Iron Fork, at which Zola chef Deb Paquette bested four culinary competitors in Battle Fiddlehead Fern, and I couldn't help wondering who would take up the challenge this year.
Wait no longer! The date is set and the chefs are ready!
Iron Fork 2009 kicks off at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 6 at the Country Music Hall of Fame with the following fearless contenders:
Tandy Wilson of City House
Jeremy Barlow of Tayst
Guerry McComas of Yellow Porch
Bart Pickens of Saffire
Jason Love of Ombi
Whole Foods Market will select and provide a secret ingredient and a pantry of supplies, and the chefs will have an hour to concoct a recipe. During that time, guests can watch the spatula-to-spatula combat, sample foods from local restaurants or hang out in the Blue Moon Beer Garden with hosts Woody and Jim from 107.5 FM.
Tickets are available before the event for $30 or $40 at the door. (Last year the event sold out, so plan ahead.) A portion of proceeds will benefit St. Luke's Community House.
Meanwhile, who wants to place bets on the secret ingredient?

If it wouldn't be giving out too much information, Carrington, is this done like Iron Chef America, where the contestants get a list of five possible secret ingredients to plan for, or are the chefs actually unaware completely in the Iron Fork?
My vote for secret ingredient goes to "dried fish products". Hehe.
Man, that is a killer list! Any one of those guys could take down a real-deal, copyright-sancioned I*** C***.
