The Patterson House, the latest act by brothers Benjamin and Max Goldberg, opens today at 1711 Division St., in the building that formerly housed Edisto and Patrick's.
Now redecorated in dark woods and wallpaper, with a 30-seat bar, the restaurant centers on a menu of artisanal cocktails. Featuring 50 cocktails poured over eight types of twice-filtered ice, the drinks menu was masterminded by Toby Maloney and Jason Cott of New York-based Alchemy Consulting, the firm behind Bradstreet Craftshouse in Minneapolis and The Violet Hour in Chicago. The menu is divided between classic cocktails and signature creations.
Chef Josh Habiger, an alumnus of Fat Duck in London, Craft in New York City and Alinea in Chicago, will deliver a repertoire of small plates and panini all priced below $11. If you get there before we do, please report back on The Elvis panini with peanut butter, banana and bacon.
The Patterson House is open Tuesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. The kitchen will also stay open until 2:30 a.m. All menu items will be less than $11.

I'm sure it's unrelated, but the Speakeasy Phrase at F. Scott's this week is "teetotalism." (Say it to your bartender and get a fruit tea cocktail for $2.75)
COCKTAILS! Vodka Cobbler with vertial ice
was refreshing, not sweet. Mint Julep a carefully crafted classic. Spanish Marguerita had a hint of heat.
Repeat visits necessary to taste all the menu favorites, well poured alcohol abundant
offerings precisely prepared.
Delightfully smoke free, ambiance that allows conversation with music in the background, intimate setting.
READ the menu....there are hidden delights...such as St. Germain Elderberry liquer hidden in a cocktail, also a stand alone over ice.
Nibbles: Crisp veal nuggets, tender inside, crisp outside....a non-greasy nugget!
Clemens Panini had wonderful goat cheese chunks.
Will visit again......often.
Well crafted cocktails, precisely poured with abundant alcohol content will require
repeat visits to sample all the menu.
Relaxing atmosphere, conversation enabling
sound level, comfortable elegance.
NYC friend in town, choosing a place for dinner, when up pops the news that Patterson House opens tonight! Couldn't have asked for more. She loved it, I loved it.
Started with the Gin menu- my choice, the Juliet and Romeo-unbelievable. Lime, mint, cucumber, rose water. Could drink these all day. She had the Briar Patch- lemon, blackberry cordial. Next on to the Cooper’s Bright for me- lemon, St. Germain Elderflower, grapefruit liqueur, sparkling wine- ok, but a bit too tart for me to drink more than one. (she loved my Juliet and Romeo so much she ordered it for round #2)
Last but certainly not least, as it turned out to be the absolute favorite of the evening, I ordered the Moscow Mule from the vodka menu-lime and fresh ginger syrup. Amazing, tingly, ah, can't wait to have this again and again. Friend had the Pim's Cup, which was good, but she agreed- the ginger concoction was the winner of the night. If it weren't a Tuesday, the competition probably would have continued into the wee hours of the night!
Flatbread w/ fig, proscuitto, blue cheese and truffle oil. Yum.
Love the comfy, cozy atmosphere, and hope to spend many evenings here. It is seating only-no standing at the bar. They will only let in as many people as they have seats. No reservations, first come, first serve, but totally worth the wait.
Wow, Fat Duck, Alinea & Craft -- we are so there. Cannot wait & thanks for the update. Even if there are hiccups early, the food should be fantastic.
Everything was amazing. The Dark & Stormy was to die for. I also like the Terra Rica, and I generally am not a brandy fan. We tried several menu items, including the shrimp corn dogs, grilled cheese and soup, and the donuts, and everything was a tasty treat. There was a great crowd and a great feel to the room. I can't wait to go back! I have a feeling The Patterson House will be my new go to.
Nashville is so lucky to have a place like The Patterson House. I went last night and felt like I stepped into a whole other world. The time and attention the owners have put into every tiny little detail is immaculate; from the vintage looking wallpaper to the perfectly mixed cocktails. I am looking forward to going again and again...and again.
Heard great things, had a close friend who visited there last night. Great atomosphere, plenty of good times to be had. By the way, I heard the secret word for this weekend is "Capone". Don't know what it entails, suppossed to tell the bartender.
Was absolutely wowed by this new place. Better than a throw-back to the speakeasy because it is sparkling CLEAN! Sophisticated, dramatic decor and to-die-for libations and tastings. Kudos to the crew for gracing our fair city with such a fun, fabulous venue. We'll be back, for sure.
Does anyone have a phone number fo this place?? I've been trying all afternoon to find one.
We were wowed by this new place. Even better than a throw-back to the speakeasy because it is SPARKLING clean! Sophisticated decor, outstanding libations and tastings. Kudos to the crew for this fabulous, fun new venue. We'll be back, for sure.
It's so awesome that all their workers decided to post here... that's some LOYALTY!
Oh Anonymous, we were waiting for someone to come and spread their negativity.
I don't work there. Anyone else?
They have a phone number on their web site. thepattersonnashville.com
Do they allow hats? If so, I'll take my ChaCha dollars to The Patterson House.
I don't think A's is "spreading negativity"; unless Patterson was conceived and run by the Olympic Gods of food and drink, I have never seen such frothy gushing for any establishemnt before.
I am definitely not employed by them in any form or fashion. I am truly over the top excited by this place and had the best experience I've had in a long, long time at any bar in Nashville.
I went last night-not employed there, and its awesome. Felt like I was in Chicago or New York.
Went last night, and it is pretty much as good as advertised. The drinks I had were very good and unique, and the atmosphere is sophisticated but relaxed and unpretentious.
One point that is sure to become the topic of another Bites post- they limit capacity to the total seats in the bar. Once all the seats are full, you have to wait to get in (Violet Hour in Chicago does this too). I have no problem with this policy, it will keep the place from ever being overrun by meatheads and d-bags, a fate that befell Bar23 and Cabana. But I certainly see some growing pains at the beginning with this policy. I was told that they will eventually take reservations, but I'm sure some folks will get a bit frustrated at the beginning, esp. on weekends if a lot of people show up at once.
Overall, they've done a great job with the place. There are very few places in town where you can go to have good drinks and be able to hang out and talk, without chaos all around you.
Went last night and it was delightful. All of the food and the drinks were delicious.... the food menu is quite limited but I was so glad it wasn't typical bar food. One point.. nothing is over $11.. which is nice.. but their speciality drinks are $11... not so Nashville price friendly. But everything, even their simple-syrup is made from scratch and was delicious. It's worth it for a drink or two, but if you're going "drinking" I def. wouldn't go there.
Also... I realize the sign on the door will probably be sufficient once the place has been open for a while, but we were standing not a block away for 10 minutes trying to figure out the location. Signage, please.
Ooh, disagree on the signage...keep it like it is! I don't want too many people to find this place!! Violet Hour in Chicago is even harder to find- from the outside, the bar is totally unidentifiable with an unmarked wooden door. You have to know where you're going. In my opinion, it only adds to the experience, like it's our little secret.
I haven't been but I heard that the bar seating is for dinner service only. If you are just having drinks, then you have to sit at a table. Hummm. Seems like oppositeland...
Also, you do not get an itemized check. Just a handwritten card with food and alcohol totals. Probably designed to keep you from seeing that your drink was more than your food.
The card/check thing is true. Kinda agree with you on that one Sean.
The bar seating/dinner thing wasn't the case when I was there. I think I only saw one couple eating at the bar, the rest of the groups were just drinking.
If you haven't already, check out the Fly on the Wall slideshow of the Patterson House opening (on the Scene's home page).
The Patterson House opening is really going to put Nashville on the map. Myself and a friend who visits the Violet Hour in Chicago quite often visited during the opening week, our experience was amazing. We chose to sit at a table for a more private evening, the cocktails and the food were excellent. We will be back and as far as the check goes I asked and they will print you and itemized copy. Cheers!!
I went to the Patterson House tonight and really enjoyed it. My only complaint is that the hostess was extremely rude and when we asked to be sat at a small booth rather than an akward table she said " yeah that's fine, I was just saving it for a larger party". Those are the kinds of things you think but should not say as a hostess. Especially considering how tiny the booth was.
We had great cocktails and great service, but it was quickly diminished by a "New York consultant" that made our waitress cry because I was telling her how incredible my drink was with the crystalized Ginger I asked her to add to it. I held it up to show her, and like a corrupt CIA agent, he grabed her and stated that he needed to "borrow her"..... He claimed she was trying to take a sip. She later returned with our food order and had been crying. Ha! Maybe it was an attempt to appear like a real Speak Easy.
Just because we are in Nashville doesn't mean our clubs have to be run like a prep school .

i like this place, but i also felt like i was in BioShock. i was just waiting for a big daddy to come around, kill him and then suck the eve out of a little sister lolz.
Hi everyone,
I'm Ryan-the chef of The Patterson House. I just wanted to answer a few questions for everyone:
First of which, I believe I'm the first employee to post here
Secondly, thank you all so much for coming and supporting this project. We at the PH are very excited about it, and glad to be so well received. We are working hard to smooth out our kinks and become better and better.
As far as the checks go, the hand written checks just look nicer. If you would like an itemized check please ask.
We have only a small sign on the door. It is a speak-easy-esque place, so neon won't quite do it.
As far as the wait goes - we really want everyone to have a seat, we don't like going to bars and being pushed around by the 4 people piled in behind you that want there drink now. We appreciate your patience, and really believe it will be worth the wait.
Again, we are excited to open and appreciate all your visits. Please come in and often, our menus (both food and drink) will change slightly seasonally.
Cheers,
Ryan
Ryan- keep up the great work! I came in again this weekend with 3 friends and we only had to wait for 15 minutes to be seated, which is not bad at all. We then spent about 3 hours eating and drinking our way through a good percentage of the menu. Wow, 20 different cocktails between the 4 of us...and can honestly say that there was not a bad one in the bunch. Have I mentioned that I love this place?
