Moe's: A Dispatch from the Field

Posted by Carrington Fox on Thu, Apr 9, 2009 at 10:07 AM

Intrepid Bites reporter Nicki Wood called in this morning with a drive-by dispatch from Moe's Southwestern Grill, which opens in Belle Meade today at 11 a.m. Bottom line: If you were planning to queue up to be one of the first 50 customers and win free burritos for a year, you're probably 12 hours too late. According to Nicki, you'll have to get in line behind some dudes with an inflatable mattress, a father and daughter team who never left after last night's VIP opening and Russ Hickman, who established a beachhead at 6 p.m. yesterday.

Alternate plan: Surely some of those people need to go to the potty. If you've got some time on your hands and a hankering for free burritos, maybe you could offer to hold their place in line--for a cut of the winnings.

Why would anyone wait in line for Moe's? The food is mediocre at best. Now the Nashville opening of a Houston chain like Mission Burrito would be something to wait in line for.

Free burritos for a year? Come on! That's worth waiting for! And there's this whole experience of it, to -- they were having a good time out there. It was like a camp out.

Eating Moe's for a year would be a punishment, not a reward.
