Last week, Nicki talked about a lunch date with her man. She inquired about local spots with outdoor options as we head towards spring. Well, I have another one for her: On Saturday, we had a lovely lunch at Mitchell Delicatessen and enjoyed it outside in Riverside Village's community garden. The large open space (which even features bike parking) was filled with families and couples soaking up the sun. Most were munching on Mitchell's excellent gourmet sandwiches, but one family had grabbed a couple of pizzas from Castrillo's. It was lovely.

I had the Turkey-Brie--topped with cranberry relish, spicy mustard and fresh apples--and my man got the same thing he always gets: turkey with cheddar, bacon, sprouts and avocado. Both sandwiches came on Silke's bread. But I have to say that the highlight of our lunch was a brownie from Sweet 16th--home of the world's best chocolate cake--that we grabbed as an impulse purchase at the register. Moist and fudgy, with chunks of chocolate throughout, it might have been the perfect brownie.

mitchell's is one of the best things about east nashville.
who needs bread&co, panera, provence or any other overpriced sandwich shop with at least four convenient locations?
