Picture this scene -- long outdoor table set for a couple of dozen serious food lovers and otherwise terrific people -- and nestle it in the bucolic organic farm fields of Leiper's Fork Arugula's Star farm, serving food prepared by Martha Stamps of Martha's at the Plantation. In Martha's words, local, sustainable, divine.
Stamps and Arugula's Star have been chosen as one stop on this year's moveable feast, the kitchen-in-a-bus called Outstanding in the Field. The group's mission is to connect people to the cook, the farmer and the land that produce the food. Ingredients are taken from the host farm and prepared by the host chef.
The honor comes on the heels of last September's James Beard Dinner at Martha's at the Plantation. If you missed that happy event, buy tickets to Outstanding early, because the events invariably sell out.
Outstanding in the Field began in Northern California in 2005, a collaboration between chefs, farmers, and winemakers, to celebrate the connection of earth, farm and fork. Each summer their kitchen-in-a-bus crosses the country, setting long tables in open fields.

Says Stamps: "I'm delighted to represent Middle Tennessee in this summer's tour. Outstanding in the Field brings together all of the virtues of leisurely, purposeful dining which I espouse. I have been buying Alison and Matthew's pristine vegetables and greens since last summer, and can't wait to work with them on this fabulous event."
