Cherry Coke Jubilee

When I asked the waiter at Ted's Montana Grill if the cherry and vanilla Cokes were from the fountain, he answered apologetically that no, the bartender used grenadine and vanilla syrup to flavor them. Apparently, he must have thought I was hoping for a pre-fabbed specialty Coke mix, but on the contrary, I was delighted to find old-school sodas being mixed by hand. My cherry Coke arrived with the crimson syrup drizzling slowly through the pellet ice toward the bottom, like a PG-13 tequila sunset. Sipped through one of Ted's biodegradable paper straws, which are big enough to let through an occasional chip of crumbly ice, it was worth the sugar splurge.

I secretly love Ted's. I've never been to the one here, but I actually look forward to eating at the one in Snellville when we go to visit my boyfriend's family. The margarita there is surprisingly not bad--they claim that their sour mix is housemade.

That's amazing attention to detail -- what made you think to ask whether they were fountain drinks?

I was just asking for you, Fluff. I thought if they had that many Coke products, maybe they would have all 18 Tropicana varieties, too.
