Just in time for Lent...one of my co-workers brought in his version of the "bacon explosion" today. Sausage and bacon wrapped in more bacon covered in bbq sauce with a little more bacon thrown on top.
Good lord. I may have a heart attack before 10am.
We're putting out grease fires on multiple fronts. Sorry about the inconvenience. Stay tuned.
We ate at Lemongrass Wednesday night. The place had a decent crowd at the early bird dining hour of 5:45. The food was delicious - we had two noodle dishes - pad thai and pad something else (glass noodles, veggies, chicken). During our dinner, I noticed several people coming in to pick-up take-out.
While most people I know were watching the Obama speech Tuesday night, I was at the Whole Foods hot bar (which, AGAIN did not have the crispy fried tofu, dammit) with some friends. Also there? Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. They're Aussie, so they have an excuse (I don't. Whatevs.)
In case anyone is interested, they take and scrape their plates at the bins just like the rest of us.
lesley - but do they put their pants on one leg at a time? that is the question...
Wild Bill's Beignets and Bikes for lunch today. Had the Ham and Cheese Monte Cristo and a Cafe Au Lait.
De-lish.
Oh the Bacon Explosion - how I lust after you..... well, that and the Bacon Ship.

Ate @ TASTE OF RUSSIA for the 3rd time this week. Amazing Russian home cooking. I love this place. Make sure you ask for HOT plates, though. Makes a difference.
I hate to bring up The Cheesecake Factory, but we ate there last night and discovered they now have a small plates menu as well. The wild mushroom crostini with madeira sauce was pretty decent.
Of course, that could be old news as that is only the second time I've ever eaten there.
The new "comment is posted" box is great. And is everyone else's autorefresh working?
Anyone know the story behind the Vittles on Fessler's becoming the Iron Skillet?
I'm behind...EdKing, where is Taste of Russia, sounds fabulous.
Anywhere in town to get really good pierogies? I'm craving them...and since the trip to Poland won't be happening this year (though next year is likely) I'll have to get them stateside...
hit las rosales and really don't get what's so great. we were 4. i had the fish tacos, and other diners had the chimichangas and cheese enchiladas - so it was kind of a boring order with kids and all. maybe we should have ventured out... i don't know. i mean, it was good - but not a stand out. the place was nice and the servers etc. were lovely. but the food was just ok. i guess for mexican in this town it was pretty good. come to think of it, both the rice and beans were delicious as opposed to the usual crap so that was a bonus.
i'm not a huge mexican food eater - never have been - but i like it. i just don't go out of my way. it's low on my list and i seek out a bowl of pho or a trip to kalamatas before i think of mexican. of course i've lived here for 15 years and that has put me off it, i'm sure.
anyway, las rosales - i'd definitely go back and order some of their more interesting dishes next time.
"i guess for mexican in this town it was pretty good."
Claudia I think you hit the nail in the coconut.
I went to Los Rosales a second time and unfortunately it was not very good. My first experience was great mainly due to eating at so many horrible Mexican places in the area it seemed like a breath of fresh air. This second visit was much closer to those restaurants than my first.
I think again I've given up hope in finding a Latin American place that has any level of execution. Why there aren't braised dishes on the menus locally and why expecting bright fresh flavors is replaced with muddy and bland flavors, I'll never understand.
Went to Boscos tonight for an early dinner around 4:00pm. Had a burger and fresh fruit as my side. It's refreshing to see fruit as an option to Freedom Fries. Granted, the fruit didn't counterbalance calories of the burger, but everything was very good and well prepared. Looks like Boscos has recently changed up their menu, saw a few things that I would love to try.
The McNuggetini:
A McDonald’s chocolate milkshake with vanilla vodka, rimmed with BBQ sauce and garnished with a chicken McNugget.

Thanks for the reminder, Dippin'. I thought Boscos' had really raised their game last time I was there, too.
re: McNuggetini
Make it a "Frytini" and I might try it. Rim it with caramel sauce (same as used on their sundaes) and stick a small bundle of fries in to use as a swizzle...
AmyBakes: Taste of Russia is in a strip mall off Carothers Parkway in Cool Springs. Here's C's review from earlier this year:

On a related note, the cabbage-roll thingies at Elena's Cafe in Brentwood are heavenly comfort food. I wished for a hunk of brown bread to mop up every last drop of creamy sauce.
AmyBakes: Oops. I've heard the pierogies at Aleksey's Russian market across from 100 Oaks on Thompson Lane (in the Applebee's shopping center) are quite good. Zackie's in Germantown has them, but our resident expert, Cleveland Pete, said they tasted more like fried dough than the pierogies he knows and loves.
Joe P.: Wait a sec...what was the story with the Vittles on Fesslers? I've seen several candidates for future research in my hood near Fesslers/Murfreesboro Road. It's been a long time since I've been to the Harley Davidson Cafe on Fesslers, which used to be great if kinda pricey. Haven't been in too long to say what it's like now, but five years ago the catfish nuggets and shakes were first-rate.
