Within the past hour, a recorded phone message at Radius10 was updated to announce the restaurant's closing. "It is with great regret and great memories that Radius10 has decided to leave The Gulch," the voice says. "Sadly, the level of business since the economic downturn is not sufficient to sustain our operation over the long haul."
A pioneer in The Gulch restaurant community, Radius10 opened three years ago to much acclaim, and was named Best All-Around Restaurant in the Scene's Best of Nashville writers' poll in 2007. This fall, chef-owner Jason Brumm discontinued lunch service and turned his attention to a catering company specializing in barbecue. The updated voice message did not mention the future of Riverwalk Catering Co.

Finally the abuse ends and we all can move on. Good luck to all the staff who worked there. We all deserve so much better!
(ducking) i wasn't a fan - at all... i guess i can say it now - out loud. and since i never said it before it can't be my fault... anyway, i probably went 8 times and just never thought it was great.
i wonder who'll take that space? i never loved the layout and man, it's noisy...
time will tell.
claudia:
Let's now sit and wait for the fools who will be quick to blame you for its demise.
I loved it for lunch, especially since it was in our back yard. Lobster-bacon pizza on the patio. I was sad when that ended.
well it was about time. the food was scant and the prices scorging...
Oh yea, and the other place up the road with the watered-down margaritas and high mexican food the size of NAFTA closed too...
Gee.....stop gouging people and you'll see that they will keep coming back to your place...
Matt
It was definitely the loudest room in town, especially that back space. Once I was one of only two tables back there and I STILL couldn't hear my dinner companions.
I did have a truly great spring pea risotto there right after they opened and I had a lovely pompano there really recently. I never thought it was particularly expensive in comparison to other similar joints, but I do think it was erratic - both in concept and execution. I could never quite figure out if it thought it was a restaurant or a scene-bar.
It worries me though; just a few more closings and we'll be back to fifteen years ago, when the only place you could go was the West End Cooker. Oh, wait...
15 years ago we were way past the Cooker.
Do not forget the Nashville Originals a group of excellent restaurants across the economic spectrum.
Dine local, dine well.
Well, restaurant owners beware... I STILL go out to dinner 3-4 times per week... But if the food is overpriced, servers and owners are unappreciative of the business, and they don't keep the place clean they go "off the list". I can buy a weeks groceries for the price of a meal at Watermark... Sunset Grills' food has been slipping over the years (where is the truffle burger!!!), Calypso wants $10 for a lunch SALAD!, Bread and Company is WAY off (I can eat at J. Alexanders for the price of two paper-tasting sandwiches at B&C and J.'s is always consistent - like Houstons was), Rosario's is horrid, etc. Nashville is a great city with a TON of local original restaurants...but why have they all waited so long to adjust their lofty prices? We the customer are not stupid...we know what food costs. I guess they choose all or nothing, unfortunately it is looking more like the latter.
Nashville's "On the List"
- La Paz; always busy which is frustrating...but it's worth it!
- Cafe Nona; romantic and nice...wife loves it.
- Tin Angel
- Mirror (for Tapas and drinks)
- Mafiozas; Great Pizza (also Pizza Perfect)
- Sportsmans
- Kalamatas (though very pricey for the atmosphere...but I keep going back)
Write your favorites and keep them in business!!!!

"we know what food costs"
But it's really not about food cost; it's about rent (and I have yet to hear a single story about landlords lowering their rent) and labor. You couldn't make a cheese omelette at home for less than ten dollars if you had to factor your rent and a chef and a waiter and a liquor license into it.
I think it's easy enough to say "oh, they should just lower the prices!" but it isn't very realistic.
Nashville's "On the List"
- La Paz
- Mafiozas
Must be the shit list.
well poo. i KNEW i should have gone to the company xmas party (at radius 10) instead of that horrible date.
ah well.
Claudia:
Ah, so now you speak, after the fact. What would make you hold your *humble* opinion until after the demise? That's not like you. You are not the shy and retiring type. Please explain...no, wait...you write your post as if...we...don't.
La Paz and Cafe Nona are 2 of my LEAST favorite places in town. Cafe Nona being the worst place I've ever eaten, not to mention being incredibly expensive.
huh?
are you on crack or just bitter and twisted?
i think it's time your internet info gets tracked and we compare to (your) other comments and see just which restaurant owner you are...
The sad irony is that I can see Riverwalk's superior BBQ going over like gangbusters in the Gulch.
Sorry to see them go. I had three good meals there. The burger and fries were well conceived and everything about them was just right, from the presentation to the flavor, texture and temperature. Not crazy for the homemade ketchup, but that was just my personal opinion.
That said, it was also the site of probably my "least-good-value-ever" meal: a pre-dinner visit where my $45 bought two glasses of wine and an appetizer for 1. So my friend and I spent $90 plus a little extra tip for 4 glasses of wine and two appetizers. Hard to justify, even if the calamari was exceptionally good.
This was the guy who, four years ago, was going to "Teach Nashville how to dine!" Oops.
Chef Brumm is very talented and his restaurant's closing is unfortunate. I always enjoyed dining and/or drinking at Radius10. No, this is not a clever post but merely a simple opinion of "yay" and "boo."
Now Ms. 10,000 Hits a Week! is threatening people. Nice!
Whatever anyone thought about Radius 10, I am sorry to see people lose their jobs and livelihood. And I am sorry to see someone lose their dream. I hope everyone lands on their feet.
Podie,
Mirror don't do tapas no more.

I guess you have not been there in a while.
As I predicted (see post #3) the anonymous Claudia-Haters (Don Quijote's Horse and the Redneck) are back at it.
So Claudia’s the only one who can’t have an opinion? So what if she dislikes a restaurant? Do you seriously believe her opinion is that powerful, or do you harbor some unknown grudge?
Those of us who are fortunate enough to have dined at her house have wallowed in sybaritic splendor, and many more here value her comments and contributions to this blog. This is far more than you two have so far accomplished.
Some of you people are morons.
Really, do you think that much of yourself.
Why don't you try it.
First of all your mom has to be somewhat talented to deliver talented cook/businessman, you got to have that drive and dedicate your life to something you know people like YOU MORONS are going to hate anyway. Please spare us from your expert comments. I don't know anything about this Jason guy but if you hated him so much why did you go there 8 or more times.
